The Role
We're looking for a Backend Developer to join our engineering team and help build the systems that power modern healthcare delivery. You'll work on scalable, secure infrastructure that thousands of healthcare providers rely on daily.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that support our EMR platform
- Collaborate with frontend developers and our product, support, and migration teams to ship features that improve patient care
- Optimize database performance and ensure data integrity across our cloud infrastructure
- Implement security best practices to protect sensitive healthcare data (PHIPA/HIPAA compliance)
- Integrate with provincial health systems including OLIS, HRM, and eConsult services
- Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and architectural decisions
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to on-call rotations
What We're Looking For
- Proficiency in Go or Java
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and query optimization
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture
- Knowledge of security best practices, authentication, and encryption
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with non-technical team members
Nice to Have
- Experience with legacy Java 8 systems and migrations
- Background in DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience in healthcare technology or with regulatory compliance (PHIPA, HIPAA)
- Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, or other healthcare data standards
- Experience with containerization (Docker)
