As a Manufacturing Engineering Consultant, you will:
- Lead manufacturing engineering assignments for SoftSim's clients across Canada (primarily Ontario & Quebec).
- Analyse existing manufacturing systems, production workflows, and process bottlenecks, and propose improvements using engineering best practices (lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, automation, digitalisation).
- Develop manufacturing process surveys, cost-benefit analyses, layout redesigns, equipment-utilisation studies, and production-line optimisations.
- Assist clients in transforming traditional manufacturing plants to smart-manufacturing environments, while preserving tried-and-true engineering fundamentals.
- Prepare professional deliverables: engineering reports, implementation plans, process sheets, quality-improvement plans, and project justification documentation.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline teams: manufacturing, operations, quality assurance, controls/automation, IT/OT.
- Serve as SoftSim's representative to the client and uphold our values of integrity, transparency, and excellence.
- Travel regionally as required (Ontario/Quebec); work may be a blend of onsite and remote consulting.
- Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering roles (preferably within Canadian or North American environments).
- Proven experience with process optimisation (lean, Six Sigma, manufacturing flow redesign) and production-line engineering.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with tools such as value-stream mapping, process simulation, and layout software.
- Experience integrating digital/automation elements into manufacturing workflows (Industry 4.0) is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills in English; French is a strong asset, especially for Quebec assignments.
- Willingness to travel within Ontario & Quebec; able to work flexible hours as client engagements demand.
- Consulting mindset: self-starter, client-facing, able to structure assignments, manage scope, and deliver to deadlines.
- Professional certifications preferred: e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP, or equivalent.
