Overview

We are hiring an Cost Accountant to play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting our organization's operational and strategic goals in Vaughan, ON. In this position, you will ensure the perpetual inventory is properly valued, analyze manufacturing costs, and maintain standard costing to support informed decision-making. You will also assist with audits, contribute to general accounting functions, and help drive continuous improvement within the finance department. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze manufacturing cost reports and inventory-related financial information in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.​
  • Perform detailed reconciliations of perpetual inventory, manufacturing accounts, and related general ledger balances to ensure accuracy and completeness.​
  • Design, implement, and maintain data-tracking methods to determine actual manufacturing costs and monitor variances between standard and actual results.​
  • Establish, review, and update standard costs for all inventory items, including labor, material, and overhead rates.​
  • Determine and periodically evaluate appropriate overhead application rates for accurate indirect cost allocation.​
  • Coordinate and lead cycle counts and the annual physical inventory; analyze results and drive actions to improve perpetual inventory accuracy.​
  • Analyze variances in revenue, cost of sales, and manufacturing-related accounts, and provide explanations and recommendations to management.​
  • Prepare monthly working papers, journal entries, and financial reports related to COGM, inventory, and plant performance.​
  • Develop and produce management reports on pricing, profitability, and key cost drivers to support decision-making.​
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting schedules, documentation, and explanations for manufacturing and inventory accounts.​
  • Prepare annual transfer pricing documentation and related analyses for management review.​
  • Support planning and budgeting of variable and fixed manufacturing costs, including departmental budgets and cost-saving initiatives.​
  • Collaborate with operations and manufacturing leadership to understand cost variances, evaluate product and process changes, and drive cost-reduction initiatives.​
  • Maintain and update Bills of Materials, routings, and pricing records to reflect current processes and cost structures.​
  • Record and analyze plant labor, including direct and indirect labor, and report on related variances and productivity metrics.​
  • Track, report, and evaluate cost-saving and continuous improvement programs to measure financial impact.​
  • Participate in ISO and other internal audit activities as part of cross-functional audit teams, supporting compliance and control improvements.​
  • Perform additional cost accounting and financial analysis duties as assigned by management to support overall plant performance.​

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is preferred.
  • About three years of accounting experience in a multi-product manufacturing environment using standard product costing systems.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial analysis in a manufacturing setting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and complex spreadsheet modeling.
  • Proficiency with MRP systems, ERP platforms, and integrated accounting software; experience with QAD 2008 is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret and prepare financial and management reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and explain complex financial information clearly.
