REPORTS TO: SUMAS FIRST NATION GENERAL MANAGER
PURPOSE & SUMMARY:
Sumas First Nation (SFN) is seeking a qualified individual to take on the role of Health Manager. The Health Manager oversees and directs our health services and health department team, supporting the Health of our Nation through extensive and dynamic programs and services. The individual in this role must be respectful of diversity and recognize that there are different cultural ways of being as well as be knowledgeable about First Nations' approaches and other holistic approaches to Health. The Health Manager must respect cultural protocols, acknowledge and embrace the diversity of knowledge systems, and work sensitively and flexibly to meet the health needs of our community. SFN partners with Sto:lo Nation Health Services, Fraser Health Authority, Fraser Valley Aboriginal Child & Family Services, and the First Nation Health Authority to provide health services to our Community members. As the lead for our Health team, the Health Manager must advocate for health needs and work collaboratively with our Health partners to support high quality care for our members.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides leadership and direction to planning, organizing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating culturally relevant and safe Health programs and services in alignment with SFN culture and traditions;
- Ensures in-depth involvement in order to deliver culturally relevant and safe health services and treatment to community members;
- Supervise and directly manage health staff and contractors. This includes performance management, career planning, coaching, mentoring, sharing of knowledge, and capacity building;
- Create and maintain a cooperative and collaborative working environment within the Health department as well as with other departments within SFN;
- Document and disseminate best practices internally and externally;
- Play a key role in defining new business development by leading the design of Health related projects, ensuring that all relevant proposals are technically sound and capitalize upon Sumas First Nation's knowledge base;
- Network with stakeholders to gather intelligence on up-coming funding and service opportunities;
- Providing operational support to Departments as needed; coordinating timely and comprehensive responses to others' requests and needs;
- Maintaining good knowledge of project issues, operations, and the working environment;
- Participate and play an active role in traditional events and ceremonies within Sumas First Nation;
- Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Educated to a master's degree level (or equivalent experience), with evidence of recent professional development;
- Broad range of recent Health and or social work experience or equivalent;
- Knowledge and experience of the delivery and evaluation of Health programs and services;
- Well versed in financial budgeting and management;
- Familiarity with interpreting and assessing financial reports;
- Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills;
- Excellent IT skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver power-point presentations;
- Excellent time/ resource management skills;
- Adept knowledge of mental and physical health components and societal influences on said components;
- Familiarity with various mental and physical health treatments and ability to seek out and provide recommendations to nation members when required;
- Knowledge and understanding of Sumas First Nation people;
- Experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations an asset;
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Excellent knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, direct reports, community members, contractors, field staff and suppliers;
- First Nations heritage is considered an asset.
- Advanced knowledge and expertise about Microsoft Excel, Word, Zoom, Go-To Meetings;
- Appreciation of First Nations culture, traditions, procedures, and protocols.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $70,000.00-$86,000.00 per year
