POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clinical Neuropsychology Service (CNS) at St. Joseph's Healthcare, Hamilton is a centralized consultation service that provides comprehensive assessment of neuropsychological and psychological functioning in a wide range of adult and geriatric inpatients and outpatients with primary psychiatric (e.g., psychotic, mood/anxiety), and/or substance abuse disorders presenting with a variety of co-morbidities including neurological (e.g., stroke, neurodegenerative disease), medical (e.g., respiratory, nephrology, rheumatology, cardiac) and developmental (e.g., intellectual developmental disability). Psychometrists in the CNS work flexibly together with and under the supervision of five staff psychologists and post-doctoral fellows to meet demands of regularly scheduled comprehensive outpatient assessments as well as multiple weekly quick-turn around inpatient consultations. Psychometrists are also involved in pre-post cognitive assessment in the context of cognitive remediation programming. Staff in the CNS are actively engaged in training of psychology learners from the undergraduate to post-doctoral level, as well as individual and team-based research. The service emphasizes evidence-based practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Master's Level degree in the area of Mental Health Psychology from a degree program centered on assessment (clinical psychology, neuropsychology)
- Minimum of three years experience working in a hospital-based mental health setting conducting evidenced-based neuropsychological and/or psychological assessment is preferred
- Training and experience in the administration and scoring of a range of neuropsychological tests including, for example: Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV, California Verbal Learning Test-2, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test
- Training and experience in the administration of psychological tests, such as the Diagnostic Assessment and Research Tool (DART) would be an asset
- Demonstrated compliance with the ethical and professional practice standards of the profession.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
-Strong time management skills and ability to work flexibly to meet fluctuating demands of short stay inpatient units- Advanced oral and written communication skills required for assessment reports and oral presentations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers a wide variety of standardized neuropsychological and psychological tests and develops a repertoire of specialized test skills.
- Scores designated neuropsychological and psychological tests and measures and summarizes results in a detailed and organized manner for review by supervising psychologist, typically under tight time constraints.
- Assists in identifying emotional maladjustments, behavioural and cognitive difficulties of patients by carrying out the above procedures and by behavioural observations.
- Relates to designated treatment units or programs as a team member or affiliate providing liaison with neuropsychological services.
- Participates in clinical research and evaluative projects related to neuropsychology.
- Participates in continuing educational activities to maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills in psychology and related health care areas.
- Participates in the training of learners (e.g., psychology practicum students, interns) to administer and score neuropsychological and psychological tests and measures.
- Participates in weekly Clinical Neuropsychology Services team meetings, including journal clubs and case presentations.
- Participates in bi-weekly Clinical Neuropsychology Services clinical triage meetings.
- Assists team with maintenance of up to date neuropsychological and psychological test forms and materials.
- Assists team with triaging and scheduling of assessments
