British Columbia Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU)
is seeking a Project Coordinator 2, Drug Checking Partner Engagement to join our Drug Checking Program team and help shape the future of substance use care.

As a research centre of the
Providence Health Care Research Institute
and a
University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine Centre
, the BCCSU is at the forefront of substance use research, education, and care. We are committed to advancing substance use policies and care in BC by translating research into education and evidence-based care guidance. By supporting the collaborative development of evidence-based policies, guidelines and standards, BCCSU seeks to improve the integration of best practices and care across the continuum of substance use.

Reporting to the Drug Checking Program Lead, the Project Coordinator 2 supports the drug checking community of practice and partnership network by facilitating knowledge mobilization, partnership engagement and developing documentation in accordance with applicable policies, standards, procedures, and protocols.

  • Strong writing skills and community engagement experience
  • Knowledge of substance use care and harm reduction
  • Strong organizational and research skills, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Drug checking expertise would be considered a strong asset

Education, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health or Social Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy or related field supplemented with a minimum of two (2) years recent, related experience in project coordination or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in harm reduction and substance use, drug checking, public health, health services, HIV and hepatitis are an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse partners and groups and regions.
  • Experience coordinating projects and/or grant-based programs are an asset.
  • Experience in preparing documents, reports, and communication materials.
  • Experience with knowledge translation and ability to convey both research and evaluation findings and medical concepts to a range of audiences is an asset.

  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including adapting verbal and written communication to suit a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment under deadlines.

Your Day to Day

  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Program Lead and other project staff in the development and operational implementation of assigned projects and initiatives. Act as a resource to project team and staff, including developing project actions, providing support, monitoring deliverables, and maintaining project timelines.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external partners/interested groups, staying informed of key implementation issues and supporting drug checking program priorities.
  • Track project progress according to project plan, monitor and report on the status of projects and major issues/obstacles encountered. In collaboration with the Program Lead, identify and support resolution to problems or barriers for successful project completion.
  • Maintain an understanding of the project schedule(s), deliverables, and commitments as set out in project charters and other work plans. Execute project plan according to project methodologies, ensuring the successful and coordinated completion of project components.
  • Communicate project status and contribute to positive working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including provincial and national partners, regional health authorities, First Nation Health Authority, community organizations, and people who use substances.
  • Support the preparation of reporting and operational support materials, including written reports, operational guidance drafts, briefing documents, promotional materials, and presentations.
  • Monitor budget expenditures as relates to partner projects and prepares expense submissions. Gather and summarize financial information related to assigned projects for submission to the Program Lead and funder(s).
  • Assist in the development of knowledge mobilization materials, gathering information and feedback, and effective strategies for dissemination of promotional materials.
  • .Plan and manage logistics for meetings, ranging from small team meetings to large partner/interested groups meetings, including management of catering, facilities, preparation and delivery of materials and presentations, producing meeting agendas, minutes, and summaries, and follow-up to include coordinating the Drug Checking Community of Practice.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
