The Position:
Our Club is currently looking for Seasonal Groundskeepers to join our team. Positions are available to start in April, with the term continuing through the end of September 2026.
As a Seasonal Groundskeeper at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, you will play a significant role in maintaining our beautiful golf course and surrounding grounds, ensuring an exceptional experience for our members and guests. Reporting to the Course Superintendents, you will join a dedicated team committed to upholding the highest standards of course presentation. Open positions are for full-time hours, with the workday commencing at 5:00 a.m. during the active play season and 6:00 a.m. in the shoulder season. Applicants must be available to work flexible hours, including one day on the weekend.

Founded in 1911 when Vancouver was just 25 years old, Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club traces its history back to the earliest days of golf on the West Coast. First located on Canadian Pacific Railway lands, the Club moved in 1960 to the ancestral site of the Musqueam Nation's winter village. Shaughnessy has served as the proud host of many prestigious events and notable figures in golf and tennis over these 100+ years. Today's Club features an award-winning clubhouse, highly ranked and competitive golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis, fitness, and a golf performance centre.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Grounds Maintenance: Execute daily tasks related to turf care, including mowing, edging, trimming, and watering, to maintain optimal playing conditions on greens, fairways, tees, and roughs.
- Landscaping: Assist with the upkeep of landscape features such as flowerbeds, shrubbery, trees, and pathways, ensuring they enhance the aesthetic appeal of our golf course. Perform general hardscaping work around the property, such as work on cart paths, walkways, staircases, and other general infrastructure.
- Equipment Operation: Operate various grounds maintenance equipment and machinery safely and proficiently, following established procedures and guidelines.
- Course Setup: Assist in setting up the golf course for daily play, tournaments, and special events, including flag placement, tee markers, and hazard maintenance.
- Irrigation System Management: Monitor, utilize and maintain the irrigation system, ensuring proper functioning to support healthy turf growth while conserving water resources.
- Bunker Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on sand bunkers, including raking, edging, and replenishing sand as needed to uphold playing quality and consistency.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other groundskeeping staff to accomplish daily goals efficiently and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Safety Awareness: Maintain a strong commitment to safety by following proper procedures for equipment operation, chemical handling, and personal protective equipment usage.
Groundskeepers may be required to perform duties that are outside the above listed scope of work as assigned by any member of the management team to upkeep maintenance standards on the golf course.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in golf course or grounds maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping equipment operation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and prolonged outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have the ability to commute to work with start times as early as 5 a.m.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Seasonal position; year-round work might be available after the end of the active golf season based on performance throughout the work term.
- Competitive hourly wage range of $21.50-$24, based on qualifications and experience. Top end wages will be reserved for applicants with an education in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agriculture, Red Seal in related fields, or extensive experience working on a golf course turf and grounds team.
