Parish of Christ Church, Amherst
Christ Church is located in the heart of Amherst, Nova Scotia, a welcoming town in Cumberland County near the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Amherst sits at the northern end of the Isthmus of Chignecto, the narrow land bridge connecting Nova Scotia to the rest of mainland Canada. The town is strategically positioned about 60 kilometres southeast of Moncton, New Brunswick, about 65 kilometres from the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island, and roughly two hours northwest of Halifax, making it a natural gateway between the three Maritime provinces.
We offer two services each Sunday:
- The 8:30 am Holy Eucharist is a simple, meditative service without music
- The 11:00 am Holy Eucharist includes lots of music — with our organist and choir leading an enthusiastic congregation — in singing hymns and parts of the liturgy.
The "Book of Alternate Service" is used for both these Sunday celebrations.
In months where there is a fifth Sunday (for example November 2025), the parish combines our 8:30 and 11:00 am services into one single service at 10:00 am, and we all gather together for worship (with music), as a parish family. These fifth Sunday services are often more creative, and a little bit different than our typical weekly celebrations.
