Rector, Full-time, Anglican Parish of The Resurrection

We are a blended family of parishioners, born from amalgamation. This amalgamation saw the change from 11 separate churches in the Sydney and Louisbourg area to the formation of a Parish consisting of 3 churches. They are: St. George’s Church (our historic church), The Church of Christ the King in Sydney and St. Bartholomew in Louisbourg. St George’s Church is used primarily for special services, concerts and as a museum. In 2004, we were renamed the Parish of the Resurrection by the Rt, Rev. Fred Hiltz, former Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Our Parishioners come from all walks of life with many at or approaching retirement age. Recently we have been blessed to welcome into our fold, several young Nigerian families and international students from both Nigeria and India. They bring a youthful flair and a unique perspective to our Parish Community. Their children are a joy in a Parish which up until they came, had few children attending services.
Like many Parishes in our Diocese, we have faced many challenges over the past years. Leadership, or lack of, issues with Parish properties, dwindling membership, COVID, Hurricanes were the most challenging. These challenges have had to be addressed by our people. We have been truly blessed to have had willing Parishioners who have worked together to keep our Parish alive and active.
Our Licenced Lay Ministers have proven invaluable to our Parish worship and life. They along with our Parish Council members provide on-line services to members through our site.
Like most Parishes we seek a Rector who is perfect. Our idea of perfect is someone who is welcoming, approachable, open minded, a good communicator, inclusive and flexible.
In addition to our regular congregation in Sydney we regularly have people from the University who are from different countries and whose form of worship often differs from ours. We have a homeless shelter in the neighbourhood and they occasionally stop in. We try to be open to all of God’s children. We would like our new Rector to be open minded and to come together in an ecumenical way with other clergy on the Island.
