Join Our Team as a Commercial Estimator/Scheduler

We're seeking an experienced Estimator/Scheduler to support diverse commercial renovation projects, including restaurants, retail spaces and other high-profile commercial builds across Western Canada. About the Role

As a Commercial Estimator/Scheduler, you will lead planning, estimating, and scheduling for commercial renovation projects, ensuring accuracy, cost efficiency, timeline adherence and alignment with client needs. You'll collaborate with owner, team members, site leads, subcontractors and clients leveraging tools like Bluebeam Revu and Builder trend. A key focus will be on strong communication to ensure timely deliverables, including material takeoffs for all trades to support price checking and budget creation for subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and estimate commercial renovation projects (primarily restaurants/QSR, retail and tenant improvements) across Western Canada, including detailed material takeoffs, labour scheduling and cost breakdowns.
  • Use Bluebeam Revu to perform accurate takeoffs for trades (e.g., electrical, carpentry, tiling, HVAC, plumbing) to help with price checking, creating budgets for sub trades and converting data into accurate labour hours, material quantities and project schedules.
  • Develop computer-generated Gantt charts and manage subcontractor schedules to meet tight project timelines and deadlines.
  • Source materials and labour by contacting wholesalers and subcontractors, securing competitive pricing for cost-effective bids.
  • Utilize Builder trend to share estimates, collaborate with teams, track project progress and streamline workflows.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings (architectural, structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) to prepare accurate and comprehensive quotes.
  • Engage with clients to ensure estimates reflect specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Follow up on quotations, verify quote vs. invoice pricing, and coordinate timely material deliveries.
  • Schedule manpower, equipment and resources; proactively communicate any delays or adjustments to clients and team members.
  • Prepare progress reports for management, outlining strategies to boost efficiency, profitability and process improvements.
  • Provide clear recommendations and reports on whether to preform scopes of work in-house or sub out to subcontractors, based on cost, capacity and quality factors.
  • Actively secure placement on new bids-lists, bidding platforms and tende3r opportunities to expand project pipeline.

Qualifications & Skills

To succeed in this role, you will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Education/Experience: 2-year technical degree (or equivalent), in a construction-related field, preferably with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, OR minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience estimating multidisciplinary commercial renovation projects (must include tenant improvements, QSR/fast food restaurants and retail fit-outs).

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for takeoffs, scheduling, and measurements (required).
  • Familiarity with Builder trend for project management and collaboration (strongly preferred; training available if required).
  • Experience with other takeoff software (e.g., Plan Swift, ProEst, Square Takeoff) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and G-Suite.
  • Market Knowledge: Extensive experience preparing competitive quotes for commercial renovations in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, with solid knowledge of local labour rates and material pricing trends.
  • Subcontractor Management: Established network of subcontractors in Western Canada; demonstrated ability to source, negotiate and coordinate effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact professionally with clients, subcontractors and team members. Ensure clear and timely deliverables. Highly organized with strong administrative skills for managing documents, schedules and reports with proven ability to meet strict deadlines consistently.

  • Must reside in Edmonton or surrounding areas. Required for occasional site visits/meetings. (reliable commute or relocation required before start)
  • Current valid driver's license and reliable transport.
  • Self-motivated and solution focused, with long-term career mindset and proactive approach to business development
  • Fluent in English (written & verbal required).

Job Details

  • Job Type: Full-time or Contractor (Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts).
  • Location: Must reside in Edmonton or surrounding areas.
  • Compensation: Starting at $85,000 annually (based on experience) Negotiable, based on experience. Eligible for performance based bonus structure (tied to new client acquired, contracts awarded, ability to learn new skills and being a team player.)
  • Experience Required: 5+ years in multi-trade estimating for commercial projects. (tenant improvements, QSR, retail focus preferred)
  • Language: English (required).
