Job Title: Northern Regional Manager/Decedent Transfer Technician – Prince George, BC

Company: Serenity Transfer Service Ltd.

Pay: $28.00/hr

Job Type: Casual / On-Call

About Serenity Transfer Service

Serenity Transfer Service Ltd. is British Columbia's trusted provider of professional deceased transfer services, partnering with hospitals, care facilities, provincial agencies, and funeral homes since 2019. We operate with three core values: Dignity, Excellence, and Common Good.

We are seeking a composed, organized, and mission-driven individual to serve in a dual-capacity role as Northern Regional Manager/Decedent Transfer Technician. This position combines leadership responsibilities with frontline operational work, supporting both the administrative and practical needs of the Prince George, Cariboo and Peace regions.

The Role

As Northern Regional Manager/Decedent Transfer Technician, you will oversee the coordination of regional field operations while also responding to transfer calls as needed. You will support and mentor team members, ensure policy compliance, and maintain STSL's high standard of professional service. In addition, you will participate directly in decedent transfers, bringing dignity and professionalism to every call .

This role requires strong leadership skills, emotional maturity, excellent communication, and the ability to remain calm and grounded in sensitive and challenging environments. The flexibility to travel and remain in another region with limited notice for extended periods when operational needs arise is a must.

This is not a typical job. It requires emotional resilience, physical strength, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. In return, you'll gain meaningful experience applicable to careers in funeral services, paramedicine, nursing, forensics, and emergency response.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Staffing

  • Ensure adequate staffing levels for the region
  • Monitor technician availability and adjust scheduling based on call volume
  • Support, mentor, and conduct check-ins with staff
  • Ensure compliance with STSL policies and procedures

Managerial Oversight

  • Manage regional call assignments, response times, and deployment efficiency
  • Travel between and stay in regions when operationally necessary
  • Oversee completion and accuracy of documentation and reports
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained, equipped, clean, and operational
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and implement improvements
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters

Administrative Duties

  • Use Outlook, Teams, and internal systems for communication and scheduling
  • Maintain professional relationships with hospitals, care homes, law enforcement, and partner funeral homes
  • Provide operational updates and reporting to senior leadership

Decedent Transfer Technician Duties

As part of this dual-role position, you will also support frontline operations:

  • Respond promptly to transfer calls, often on short notice
  • Safely and respectfully transport decedents using company vehicles
  • Navigate tight spaces, cluttered environments, and narrow stairwells during removals
  • Complete required documentation accurately and professionally
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all circumstances
  • Interact compassionately with families, law enforcement, and medical staff when required
  • Drive throughout the region and surrounding areas, including in adverse weather and road conditions

What We're Looking For

  • Class 5 driver's licence (ICBC), with no restrictions
  • A reliable personal vehicle to travel to team meeting points before shifts
  • Ability to lift 150+ lbs unassisted and assist moving up to 300 lbs with a partner
  • Clear criminal record check (provided at no cost to you)
  • Reliable availability for on-call work (you must respond to at least one call per month to remain on the active roster)
  • Emotional maturity and composure in sensitive situations
  • Comfort working with deceased individuals in various conditions, including exposure to bodily fluids
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanour
  • Ability to provide your own dress code attire: plain black collared shirt, black pants, and closed-toe black shoes or boots

Important: Nature of the Work

This role involves routine exposure to human mortality. You will encounter deceased individuals in various states, which may include traumatic injury, advanced decomposition, and other difficult scenes. The ability to witness these conditions while maintaining professional composure is a condition of employment. If you are uncertain whether you can manage this aspect of the role, this position may not be the right fit.

Compensation & Growth

  • Competitive wage, Probationary Period (First 90 Days): $28.00/hr starting
  • Criminal record check provided at no cost
  • Flexible scheduling that works around other commitments
  • Meaningful experience in a specialized, in-demand field
  • Opportunity for increased hours as you develop with the team

What to Expect

Workload varies based on call volume and staffing needs and hours fluctuate based on call volume—some weeks may include 10+ hours, while others may involve only one or two calls per month. Includes administrative tasks, field presence, and operational transfer duties and strong alignment with STSL values.

This role is ideal for individuals with flexibility, or those building experience toward careers in healthcare, emergency services, or funeral industries.

A pre-employment aptitude assessment and in-person strength test are required before moving forward in the hiring process. Qualified applicants will receive the assessment link after initial review.
