The Education and Skills Training (ESTR) program (University and Employment Preparation Department) at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member to teach four hours of ESTR 0080 on Nov. 17, 2025, and four hours of ESTR 0370 (including soup and biscuit preparation for ESTR's Market) on Nov. 18, 2025:

ESTR 0080 (Workplace English and Written Communication)

This course focuses on the reading and writing skills needed in a workplace environment. The content of the course is individualized to met the needs of the student and is also related to their area of occupational skills training (kitchen, retail or automotive). Materials that offer the student the opportunity to locate relevant information, understand and read the information and complete applicable writing tasks are provided.

ESTR 0370 (Advanced Topics in Workplace Success)

This course is intended for those students who have completed the core courses of the ESTR program and are continuing in one of the occupational skills training areas. Students will learn to research and evaluate a business in terms of it relating to the students personal interests, skills and chances of long-term success. Students will also review and enhance their job search skills including their resume, interview techniques, and following up after interviews and after a temporary lay off.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Master's degree or a Red Seal in a relevant field required (required)
  • Teaching Certificate or Instructor's Diploma or Special Education Certificate (required)

Experience:

  • Working with students with intellectual, developmental or learning disabilities or other neuro-diverse abilities (required)
  • Employment preparation/supporting students through career planning and career decision making process (required)
  • Work placement skills, practicum coordination experience with connections to local business (required)
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle required
  • Project-based learning, experiential learning and/or integrating work-based learning with knowledge of the work setting relevant to the courses to be taught (preferred)
  • Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action 62) (preferred)
  • Skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 62) (preferred)
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) (preferred)
