Course Number and Title: VIS1020H1S - Contemporary Art: Theory and Criticism
Course Description: This course engages major developments in contemporary theory and criticism as pertinent to the history of contemporary art. The course attends closely to the relationship between art practice and its interpretation. Major focus on critical writing, close reading of work, and the development of pertinent frameworks for the explanation and interpretation of contemporary art and artistic practice. Course is offered as a series of seminars, with assigned readings, research papers and presentations by students.

Minimum Qualifications: An MA, MFA, or equivalent graduate degree and prior teaching experience are required. Candidates should have a strong exhibition history and be actively engaged in artistic or curatorial practice. Other arts professionals and scholars will be considered. Applicants may be asked to supply reference.
Preferred Qualifications: Internationally recognized practice.
Description of Duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials, preparation and delivery of assignments, tests; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions and student contact hours.
