About the Role

As a Category Buyer – Produce, you will be responsible for daily commodity buying and category management across a broad range of fresh fruits and vegetables. This role is based out of the Ontario Food Terminal, working closely with our procurement and sales teams to ensure product availability, accurate pricing, and strategic purchasing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily commodity buying across multiple produce categories
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and supply conditions to ensure competitive purchasing
  • Maintain accurate product descriptions, pricing, and category details in internal systems
  • Collaborate with the sales team to support customer needs and maintain consistent supply
  • Work with the procurement team to optimize inventory levels
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships while evaluating performance
  • Negotiate pricing and terms where appropriate
  • Ensure all purchased products meet quality and specification standards

Qualifications

  • Experience in produce buying or procurement (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of produce categories, seasonality, and market dynamics
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in pricing and data entry
  • Proficient with basic computer systems and procurement/inventory software
