ABOUT THE ROLEUnder general supervision, the Plumber performs skilled journeyperson level work on FMFN residential, facility, and building plumbing systems. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing plumbing components, fixtures, systems, piping equipment and controls in accordance with industry standards and to ensure safety, functionality, and efficiency. Piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids. Work involves a variety of construction, renovation, maintenance, or repair duties, requiring skill, precision, experience, and knowledge of trade practices to produce refined work products. Assignments are usually in the form of oral or written work orders.DUTIES:Perform rough-in duties for new buildings, including but not limited to:Study building plans and specifications to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials.Locate and mark positions for connections and fixtures.Cut holes through walls and floors to accommodate pipes.Select the type and size of pipe required and measure, cut, thread, bend, clamp, solvent cement or solder pipe.Assemble and install valves and fittings.Join pipe sections and secure them in position.Test pipe systems for leaks.Install underground storm sanitary and water piping systems.Perform plumbing finishing work duties, including but not limited to:Install sinks, tubs, toilets, and other fixtures as required.Install water softeners, hydronic heating and chilled water systems, and hot water boilers, as required.Perform plumbing troubleshooting, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair to existing plumbing systems, such as but not limited to:Unplug clogged drainage and sanitary systems; repack pumps; solder leaking water pipes.Maintain and certify Back Flow Preventers.Maintain and repair gas fired appliances, under 400,000 BTU.Perform other plumbing duties, including but not limited to:Collaborate with homeowners, team members, and facility maintenance staff to assess task requirements and provide accurate work scopes.Maintain a clean and organized work environment.Provide excellent customer service, addressing client concerns and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and hazards in the workplace.Complete documentation and reporting accurately and in a timely manner.Willingness to train and mentor apprentice plumbers, providing guidance and instruction on proper techniques and safety protocols.Perform other related duties as required.EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Highschool diploma or GED equivalent.Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyperson certification in a Plumbing trade.Minimum of three (3) years of journeyperson experience in the trade.Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset.WHY APPLY?At Fort McKay, we value the dedication of our employees, which is why we give so much in return.
