Position Summary

Join Our Team as a Program Specialist - Fitness

Are you passionate about fitness and looking to make a positive impact in your community? The City of Regina is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Program Specialist to oversee our fitness programs and facilities. This is your chance to bring your creativity and leadership to our dynamic team and help us deliver exceptional fitness experiences to our residents

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of projects and programs relative to land and water fitness, personal training, weight room operations and lifestyle-related programs and services within the Sportplex, as well as advising and assisting with the above at the Sandra Schmirler and North West Leisure Centres. This position assists in ensuring the efficient and effective overall management of leisure facilities and programs. This position reports to the Sportplex Supervisor.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Plans, implements and evaluates a wide variety of fitness, special event and lifestyle-related programs and services. Responsible for hiring, training, supervision, scheduling and evaluation of casual recreation worker staff and contract fitness instructors. Works cooperatively with the Program Specialist at the North West and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centres to develop fitness programs, determine fitness equipment needs and ensure available instructors. Develops, leads, and completes staff orientation, customer service training and other staff training. Responsible for the proper allocation of program space in accordance with Sportplex operating policies and the assessment of user fees via the annual Fees and Charges Survey. Works with other Divisions and Departments to ensure the effective operation of the Sportplex. Recommends and monitors the registration process for facility programs and services. Develops and implements policies and procedures with regard to programming and scheduling of various sport, recreation and fitness programs. Responsible for coordinating the repair and replacement of all fitness and weight room equipment at the Sportplex as well as coordinating the replacement of weight room equipment at the Sandra Schmirler and North West Leisure Centres. Assists in the development of long- and short-term plans and objectives. Assists in the preparation, development and tracking of the Sportplex annual capital and operating budgets. Develops and completes the tender process for capital Fitness equipment purchases for the Sportplex, North West and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centres. Approves requisitions, expenditures and other transactions within the limits of authority and takes necessary actions to protect Civic assets against loss and waste. Maintains and interprets statistical data and financial information on related programs to allow for ongoing evaluation of services and user needs. Prepares reports and undertakes analyses as required. Represents the department at various community meetings and events; inter-agency planning bodies and various other committees related to sport, fitness and lifestyle-related programs and services. Develops and maintains working relationships with clients including the general public, community associations, special interest groups, community sport clubs, other user groups, and civic partners. Handles public enquiries and complaints and completes service requests. Performs related work as required Teaching fitness classes as required

Key Qualifications

Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field. Three years of experience in programming, facility operations, and fitness class instruction. Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association Fitness Leadership Certification (or equivalent) required. First Aid, AED/CPR Level C Certification required. Proficient in managing sport and fitness facilities and programs. Skilled in facility scheduling and programming software (Word, Excel, ActiveNet). Knowledgeable in assessment, strategic planning, and project management for sport and recreation programs. Understanding of fitness, weight room activities, and required equipment. Experience in creative program planning and scheduling. Strong leadership, training, and group facilitation skills. Ability to research, analyze data, and translate program needs into facility requirements. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong planning and time management abilities, handling customer/user inquiries efficiently. Familiar with corporate policies, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, and special population needs. Knowledge and understanding of special populations, i.e. Indigenous, physical, mentally, and sensory impaired, lower socio-economic disadvantaged, aged, and all client groups. Ability to select, supervise, recruit, train, provide leadership, schedule and evaluate performance of staff.

Working/Other Conditions

Must possess a valid driver's license and have available a vehicle for work usage (a travel allowance is provided). May be required to work non-standard hours.
