Part time Floater

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Floater (Dishwasher + Prep Cook + Smoothie Bar staff) is to provide overall assistance and support in the general function and operation of the Kitchen through the use of essential knowledge and skills required to wash, clean and store dishes, utensils, food preparation equipment and/or kitchen as well as prepare, clean, and store food. Such skills include proficiently being able to utilize kitchen tools including but not limited to the proper knife handling/cleaning procedures. The role is also responsible for creating the Organic Juice Bar experience for the Juice Bar customer and by extension, The Big Carrot, by providing exemplary customer service, quality drinks and products, and maintaining a clean and comfortable store environment.

This role will primarily focus on Front of House Food Service and Smoothie Bar. Secondary duties include dishwasher and prep cook tasks.

Responsibilities for Dishwasher

• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment and ensure store cleanliness standards, using dishwashers or by hand.
• Maintain a dry and clean floor surface through proper use of mops, squeegees, or scrubbing.
• Ensure that food is properly stored.
• Transfer supplies between storage or other departments and work areas, by hand or using a cart.
• Remove compost and garbage
• Performing kitchen maintenance; emptying the trash and washing dishes.
• Assist in time management including making sure there is adequate materials available for use.
• Transferring orders from produce as needed and putting the vegetable order away.
• Putting the dry goods away and straightening the dry goods shelves.
• Preparation kitchen as needed by peeling potatoes and chopping vegetables.
• Adhere to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.
• Any other job-related tasks as required by the Food Service Manager.

Responsibilities for Prep Cook:

• Follows designated methods and policies and procedures including, but not limited to, organic compliance standards for food preparation, storage, serving and clean-up.
• Uses and maintains all kitchen equipment safely and appropriately and maintains a clean and safe work area as per policy and procedures.
• Provides excellent customer service when in contact with customers or other staff.
• Performs all other related job duties as required by the departmental manager.
• Attends all required Organic Compliance trainings and follows designated protocols
• In the event that compliance of organic standards procedures cannot be met, notifies manager/supervisor or Standards Coordinator.
• All other responsibilities related to organic compliance that are recommended by the Store Manager

Responsibilities for Juice Bar:

• Delivers excellent, friendly, customer service and product knowledge to all Juice Bar customers.
• Producing and serving quality juices and drinks for Juice Bar customers in an efficient, friendly and timely manner.
• Maintain a clean and organized workplace.
• Process cash, debit and credit transactions in an efficient and timely manner.
• Perform closing duties which can vary from compost and trash disposal, to general cleaning and storing of equipment
• Communicates information to the department manager and supervisor, so the department can respond as necessary.
• Adhere to all operational, health & safety, and organic compliance policies and procedures when the above responsibilities are performed.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

• Kitchen experience an asset
• Professional communication skills are required
• Ability to take direction and work in a team environment
• Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
• To efficiently utilize time management skills in a multi-tasking environment
• Previous experience in food services or as a coffee barista an asset
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and to request for clarification when needed
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to function with composure under times of stress or a high volume of customers

Pay: $17.60 per hour

• Barista: 1 year (preferred)
• Prep Cook: 1 year (required)

• Dishwashing: 1 year (preferred)
