Rome Customs & Trade is seeking a Licensed Customs Broker interested in building a branch from the ground up and growing into an Operating Branch Manager. This Leadership Development Track is ideal for a motivated professional who wants to develop strong operational expertise, build management skills, take ownership of branch performance, and help expand our customs brokerage presence. We're looking for someone proactive, driven, and excited to grow with us as we build out this new operation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customs Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure accurate and compliant documentation, including Powers of Attorney, import declarations, bills of lading, invoices, and country-of-origin information.
  • Serve as the broker of record with accountability for compliance and entry accuracy.
  • Proactively identify and address potential customs issues before they impact timelines.
  • Stay informed on U.S. Customs regulations, tariffs, trade updates, and CBP policies, and share relevant changes with the team.
  • Complete all CBP-mandated continuing education requirements on time.

2. Branch Operations & Leadership Development

  • Oversee day-to-day branch operations, ensuring timely, accurate shipment processing and clearance.
  • Lead, mentor, and support brokerage staff while continuing to develop people-management experience.
  • Monitor KPIs such as accuracy rates, clearance timelines, billing quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Help implement processes that improve efficiency and team performance.

3. Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key accounts, providing guidance on customs topics such as duty payments, tariff classification, and compliance strategies.
  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through proactive communication and timely updates.
  • Address client inquiries and escalations promptly—ideally within one business day.

4. Financial Accountability & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure accuracy in billing, invoicing, and credit-limit assignments.
  • Support branch P&L responsibilities and monitor operational costs.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen financial performance.

5. Business Growth & Strategic Contribution

  • Help identify new business opportunities and strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, operations, and logistics, to enhance service offerings.
  • Provide monthly updates on branch performance, compliance trends, and opportunities for improvement.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Active Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (required).
  • 5+ years of experience in U.S. import/export regulations, tariff classification, and customs procedures.
  • Some supervisory, lead, or mentorship experience, with strong motivation to grow into full management responsibilities.
  • Can work independently, have exceptional attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex customs issues.
  • Clear, professional communication with clients, CBP, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines, and client needs simultaneously.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in helping build and scale branch operations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
