The Opportunity:

In the leadership position of National Personal Lines Underwriting Manager, Digital Products, you will lead the underwriting function for digital products within the personal lines business.

This role involves developing and executing strategies to manage and grow the digital personal lines portfolio while ensuring underwriting guidelines and risk management processes align with company objectives. The manager will collaborate closely with product development, marketing, technology teams, and senior leadership to drive growth and profitability in the digital personal lines sector

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Digital Product Strategy & Development:
    Lead the development and execution of underwriting strategies for digital personal lines products, including homeowners, tenants, manufactured homes, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, and other emerging product lines.
  • Underwriting Leadership:
    Oversee a team of underwriters, across Canada, responsible for evaluating and managing digital product portfolios. Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, risk selection processes, and profitability targets.
  • Risk Assessment & Pricing:
    Leverage data analytics and technology to develop effective pricing and risk management strategies. Ensure competitive pricing while maintaining risk-based profitability in digital channels.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Management:
    Ensure that all digital underwriting practices comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and regulatory changes that may impact digital personal lines products.
  • Performance Metrics & Reporting:
    Track and report on key performance metrics (KPIs) for digital underwriting processes, such as loss ratios, conversion rates, and customer retention. Implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Team Development:
    Recruit, train, and mentor a team of underwriters. Foster a collaborative, performance-driven culture while ensuring professional development and knowledge-sharing.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
    Work closely with cross-functional teams, including the National Digital Strategy Leader, marketing, customer service, and claims, to drive the successful development and execution of digital personal lines products.
  • Market Research & Trends Analysis:
    Continuously monitor the competitive landscape and emerging digital trends to identify opportunities for innovation and product differentiation.

Here's what you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field or experience. Professional certifications (e.g., CIP, FCIP) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in underwriting within personal lines insurance, with a focus on digital channels and products
  • Proven experience managing underwriting teams and collaborating across departments to execute product and pricing strategies
  • Strong background in digital underwriting tools, data analytics, and pricing models with experience with Insurtech solutions, AI-driven underwriting, and automation is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving digital environment
  • Strong work ethic without sacrificing your ability to have fun on the job
