Food Scientist – R&D Project Manager

Position Summary

The Food Scientist will lead and manage research and development (R&D) projects from concept initiation through commercialization. This role requires strong technical expertise in food science, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Quality Assurance (QA), and Production teams. The ideal candidate will drive innovation, ensure compliance with food safety standards, and deliver high-quality products to market.

Key Responsibilities

· Concept Development & Project Initiation: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify new product opportunities and define project objectives. Conduct feasibility studies and market research to support concept development.

· Ingredient Sourcing & Formulation: Source and evaluate raw materials and ingredients for functionality, cost, and compliance. Develop and optimize formulations to meet sensory, nutritional, and regulatory requirements.

· Laboratory Testing & Documentation: Perform bench-top experiments and prototype development. Document all lab testing processes, results, and observations in accordance with company standards.

· Plant Trials & Scale-Up: Coordinate and execute plant trials to validate formulations and processes. Maintain detailed records of trial procedures, outcomes, and adjustments.

· Data Analysis & Conclusions: Analyze test data to draw conclusions and recommend next steps. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal review.

· Commercialization: Work closely with Sales, QA, and Production teams to ensure smooth product launch. Provide technical support during commercialization and resolve any formulation or process issues.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Lab and Plant Trial Execution: Timely completion of lab tests and plant trials according to project timelines. Accuracy and completeness of documentation for all testing processes.

· New Product Onboarding: Successful launch of new products within agreed timelines and specifications. Percentage of projects moving from concept to commercialization without major reformulation.

· Data-Driven Development: Quality and depth of data analysis supporting product development decisions. Objective assessment and reporting of product performance against benchmarks.

· Ingredient and Raw Material Sourcing: Identification and qualification of cost-effective, compliant ingredients. Supplier reliability and adherence to quality standards.

· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effective communication and coordination with Sales, QA, and Production teams. Positive feedback from internal stakeholders on project management and technical support.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field.

· 3+ years of experience in food product development and R&D project management.

· Strong knowledge of food chemistry, processing, and regulatory standards.

· Proficiency in documentation and data analysis.

· Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

· Experience with sensory evaluation and shelf-life studies.

· Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.

· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight timelines.
