Job Description:

Parsons is now hiring a Senior Bridge Engineer in Halifax.  The primary scope of this role is to develop bridge and structural designs for work locally and across Canada.  The role includes the technical mentorship of junior and intermediate engineers. This person will have a desire to work on creating innovative, practical solutions to various infrastructure projects out of our Halifax office.

Job Description:

Your knowledge of bridge design methods, goals and objectives will be instrumental in helping us win new work and execute projects to the clients' satisfaction. As a "seller", you will assist our BD team in identifying new opportunities within Nova Scotia and HRM, be instrumental in developing proposals and helping us win opportunities. As a "doer", you will plan and define project / program goals and devise methods to accomplish them, as well as coordinate projects through all project phases from inception, planning, design, construction and closeout. Along with your P.Eng and years of experience, you'll have experience managing local projects, industry contacts and a strong work ethic.

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Act as lead structural designer and be responsible for the structural discipline in bridge design and rehabilitation projects.
  • Manage project delivery including schedules, budgets and quality
  • Liaison and coordination with clients, stakeholders and sub-consultants
  • Oversee and take part in the preparation of engineering design plans, engineering computations, technical reports, specifications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Lead and participate in project meetings as well as participate in site visits and field inspections as required.
  • Manage, coach, motivate, and provide leadership for staff to deliver high-quality services and innovative solutions to complex planning and design challenges involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Assist in business development activities and undertake leadership roles in proposal preparation, including assistance in developing project methodology, work programs, schedules, and budgets
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering with specialization in structures
  • Masters in structural engineering strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of professional experience in bridge design, including engineer of record roles and project management
  • Knowledge of bridge standards (including CAN/CSA-S6) and structural analysis software (SAP, CSiBridge, Midas, etc.)
  • Demonstrate excellent English written and oral communication skills.
