Role Overview

We are hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to join as our second DevOps hire. You'll report to and partner with our Lead DevOps engineer to evolve our AWS/Terraform foundation, CI/CD, and operational practices.This is a hands-on role for someone senior who really knows AWS and Terraform and can take ownership from design through to implementation.Roughly 20% of this role is compliance and security operations. You'll be a key player in maintaining first-class security posture at HONK (SOC 2 and PCI DSS Level 1 audits).

Our stack: AWS, Terraform, CircleCI, Docker on ECS, and RDS Aurora.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve our AWS infrastructure using Terraform. You'll improve how we structure modules, manage environments, and ship safe infrastructure changes through code review and strong standards.
  • Design secure, scalable cloud architecture. You'll help shape service patterns and AWS designs that support our applications, APIs and databases as we grow.
  • Build and improve CI/CD. You'll make deployments more reliable and repeatable, reduce manual steps, and make it easier for developers to ship with confidence.
  • Improve reliability and operational maturity. You'll strengthen monitoring, alerts, logging, incident response, and runbooks so issues are easier to detect, debug, and prevent.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization. Improve cost visibility (tagging, dashboards), spot waste, and implement practical optimizations in AWS/Terraform without compromising reliability or security.
  • Enable and influence the engineering team. You'll collaborate, document, and mentor, helping the team build better systems.
  • Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews. Turn learnings into pragmatic automation and reliability improvements.
  • Raise the bar on security and compliance. You'll tighten IAM, secrets management, and auditability, and support compliance needs such as PCI/SOC 2 where relevant.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years in DevOps/SRE/platform roles. You've been accountable for production systems long enough to see the impact of your changes.
  • Deep AWS experience and confidence deploying and operating a wide range of AWS services in production.
  • Strong Terraform skills and real experience building and maintaining production infrastructure as code.
  • Containerization experience (Docker) and experience operating container workloads at scale (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes, etc.).
  • CI/CD ownership in a continuous delivery environment, with a track record of improving release safety and speed.
  • High autonomy and ownership. You're self-motivated, pragmatic, and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Points
  • Experience deploying and operating Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Proficiency in bash, python & go.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 CAD
  • Work Environment: Hybrid/remote‑friendly with flexibility to work outside of the country for short periods each year.
