:59 PMCBC News Spring/Summer 2026 Journalism Internships
CBC News is proud to offer its Spring/Summer internships to aspiring journalists from across the country, a six-week, in-person program that provides valuable hands-on experience in multiplatform news environments.
Please note that we can only consider your application if you have been recommended by the journalism coordinator at your university or college. Please do not apply unless you have been recommended by your school and have received an invitation from CBC to apply to our program.
We are currently accepting applications for our Spring/Summer 2026 sessions:
Spring Session: Mon Mar 30 to Fri May 8, 2026
Summer Session: Mon Jul 13 to Fri Aug 21, 2026
The deadline for submitting your application is Thursday January 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm ET.
About the program:
Our six-week full-time program offers students hands-on experience in multiplatform news environments.
Our placements are located at the CBC Toronto Broadcast Centre but include the possibility of working at other local newsroom locations in Ontario.
Interns parallel the programs they're assigned to. Most work is in person, Monday to Friday. However, some placements are hybrid home-office arrangements. Some roles require weekend shifts and/or early morning or late afternoon/evening work.
Internships are unpaid. Interns are responsible for accommodation and travel.
If successful, a student's placement area will depend on the interests they express to us, our assessment of their strengths and the ability of our programs/departments to host interns.
Note: This is a list of typical placement areas however they're subject to availability and vary throughout the year.
Program criteria:
You must be enrolled in a journalism program recognized by CBC.
Internship must be a requirement of your program.
We will not consider any student application unless recommended by your school's coordinator.
Students must not have already interned in an editorial role at the CBC.
Students must be in—or about to enter—their final year of study at the time of the internship.
Students must be available full-time. We are unable to accommodate class/work schedules.
Interns must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Although interns are not paid, we need to ensure they could be employed following the internship. International students can only be considered if they hold a work permit that is valid from the time of the application deadline until several months after the internship end date.
Note: As part of its standard recruitment process CBC requires that background checks are conducted for all students who are offered an internship. There is no charge.
Please note that CBC values equal opportunity and nurtures an inclusive workplace where individual differences are not only recognized and valued, but also extend to and pervade all the services we provide as Canada's public broadcaster. For more information, visit the Diversity and Inclusion section of our website.
What are the application requirements?
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must ensure they provide a single PDF that consists of the follow items:
A one-page cover letter that explains what you bring to the program
A one-page resume
Portfolio: Please provide three examples of your journalism work. If you've worked in more than one medium, make sure your examples reflect that range (ie. text, audio, video, interactive, etc). For each link, please write one sentence about why you chose to submit this piece. Please provide links to your work, not the actual files. Group projects are acceptable; however, you MUST clearly describe your own contribution.
Note: Letters of Reference are optional (2 max). They can be uploaded as separate files.
Employment during internship:
While we do not want interns to overextend themselves during their internship, we are sensitive to the importance of income derived from part-time jobs. If the work is journalistic in nature, we will ask interns for details to ensure that there is no conflict of interest while at the CBC.
Note:
Although proficiency in technical skills is essential to the work of journalists, this is not a technical internship. This is an editorial internship which is not designed for people who are interested in careers in directing, switching, lighting, editing and camera work.
If your school has nominated you but you decide NOT to submit an application, please notify us.
Thank you for your interest, time and effort. We look forward to reviewing your application package
