Your role
Are you passionate about local news and current affairs, and enthusiastic about impactful digital journalism?
Radio-Canada Toronto is looking for a News Writer/Presenter to join its news team.
This is a full-time position, with three (3) weekdays and two (2) weekend days. Your presence on-site will be required at all times.
On weekends, you will write and present a mix of local, regional, national and international news headlines for radio.
During the week, you will write and produce stories primarily for our digital platforms.
In all your work, you will put audience needs at the centre of what you do and ensure that a wide range of perspectives, experiences and points of view are reflected in our coverage.
Key responsibilities:
- Write and gather content from a variety of sources, including material prepared by Radio-Canada reporters on local, regional, national and international issues.
- Prepare and read newscasts on radio, including writing scripts and creating the rundown.
- Review colleagues' scripts or reports and suggest edits or improvements.
- Facilitate communication and information sharing between the local newsroom and the national news desk.
- Perform the technical tasks required for the on-air delivery of newscasts.
- Gather, write, and format news stories for digital platforms.
- Edit audio and video content to produce reports within tight deadlines.
- Present live news content across multiple platforms.
- Provide analysis and context on current affairs.
- Identify and pitch story ideas that will engage a broad audience.
- Regularly produce exclusive, enterprise-driven journalism.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and present stories and coordinate long-term coverage.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of contacts and sources.
Your profile:
- University degree in journalism (or equivalent) and at least three (3) years of relevant experience
- Proven experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment
- Experience writing and delivering radio newscasts
- Strong understanding of Toronto and Ontario's political landscape, economy and demographics
- Excellent writing skills across all platforms and experience in gathering, editing and producing audio and video content
- Knowledge of emerging formats, openness to change, and willingness to take on new responsibilities across platforms
- Ability to generate, cover and present strong, original stories that meet audience needs
- Strong commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and respect in the workplace
- Professional ethics and sound knowledge of Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Excellent teamwork and ability to work independently
- Bilingualism (French/English) required
- Valid driver's licence and driving record that meets CBC/Radio-Canada's minimum insurance requirements
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and occasionally work unexpected overtime
