UnitiWall is seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Coordinator to work closely with management and production teams in implementing and monitoring company-wide safety programs and initiatives. This role is highly interactive and hands-on, requiring a visible presence on the shop floor and a commitment to promoting safety through active engagement, training, and ongoing communication. The Health & Safety Coordinator will play a key role in fostering a culture of safety, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Implementation & Monitoring:

  • Collaborate closely with managers and production leadership to implement and monitor health and safety programs, policies, and initiatives across the organization.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor, proactively identifying hazards and promoting safe work practices.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, hazard identification, and audits; recommend and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Deliver hands-on safety training and orientation for employees, including PPE and emergency response.
  • Facilitate consistent communication of safety information, updates, and best practices to all staff.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities; document all recommendations and ensure they are logged, tracked, and closed.
  • Help with the ordering, inspection, maintenance, and training on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Support managers and employees with workplace injury/illness claims and return-to-work initiatives, including managing and submitting all required documentation.
  • Track and coordinate all employee health & safety training.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation and system administration for all health & safety information.
  • Stay current with changes in health and safety legislation and communicate updates to management and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Safety Culture & Engagement:

  • Actively promote a safety-first culture through engagement, training, and open communication.
  • Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks, encouraging feedback and participation from all employees.
  • Foster collaboration between HR, production management, and employees to continuously improve safety performance.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Track and document all accidents and near misses, analyze causes, and recommend changes to prevent future incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation (OHSA, WSIB, etc.), company policies, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory bodies and senior management.
  • Investigate any incidents or accidents and work with HR and production management to implement corrective actions.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications, although all applications are encouraged where the requirements below are closely met.

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a health and safety role within a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and safety audits.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related safety or data management systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards (e.g., ISO is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Experience with safety management systems and reporting software

Hours of Work & Physical Requirements:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for extended periods.
  • Capability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to machinery and industrial noise.
