What Are We Looking For?

  • Position Title Senior Analyst - Financial Planning & Technical Compliance
  • Job Type Permanent, Full Time (40 hours/week, Monday - Friday)

  • Reports to the Controller 

Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Senior Analyst – Financial Planning & Technical Compliance to support the Controller in maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the organization's financial records. This role ensures the timely preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, supports budgeting and forecasting processes, and manages key reconciliations such as bank accounts, subledgers and general ledger balances. By preparing audit-ready documentation and assisting with regulatory filings, the Senior Analyst – Financial Planning & Technical Compliance helps safeguard compliance with internal policies and external standards.
The Senior Analyst – Financial Planning & Technical Compliance work enables leadership to make informed strategic decisions, supports leaders in tracking expenditures against budgets, and reinforces the organization's reputation for financial transparency among stakeholders, donors, and regulatory bodies. This is a permanent, full time position.

What You'll Do

1. Core Accounting Functions

•    Prepare and post journal entries and complete bank and cash deposits

•    Maintain and reconcile pre-paid expense schedules

•    Manage and update capital accounting including tracking of fixed assets, monthly depreciation journal entries, revenue recognition etc.

•    Review and reconcile deferred revenue and deferred contributions

•    Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations

•    Post sub-ledgers (e.g., accounts receivable, accounts payable, donations) ensuring the sub-ledgers are reconciled to the general ledger

•    Manage integration of Raiser's edge activity to Financial Edge, specifically

       i.) Review and post Raiser's Edge entries to the general ledger
      ii.) Support and resource knowledge with campaign, fund and appeals set up in RE
     iii.) Liaise with the Fund Development team to ensure accurate accounting of funds/gifts received
     iv.) Identification of transactions recorded as donations/sponsorships/grants in RE
      v.) Monthly reconciliation between RE and G/L

•    Conduct regular maintenance of the General Ledger Chart of Accounts

•    Maintain organized filing of supporting documentation

2. Financial Reporting and Analysis

•    Lead monthly close process and assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

•    Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity

•    Conduct variance analysis and provide commentary

•    Support Controller with year-end working papers and audit preparation

•    Coordinate with auditors and respond to audit queries

•    Prepare internal reports and financial analysis as required

•    Assist with budget development and financial forecasting

•    System Administrator for Vena Budget System

•    Analyze budget-to-actual variances and recommend corrective actions

3. Compliance & Filings

•    Prepare and submit government filings including: 
i.) Charity Information Return (T3010)
ii.) WCB Reporting
       iii.) Society Annual Return
       iv.) GST Returns

•    Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures and external standards.

4.    Cross-Functional Collaboration

•    Support the Accounts Payable and Payroll functions as needed.

•    Support financial onboarding for new staff. 

•    Covers Controller role in absence of Controller, as needed, adhering to approved Limits of Authority.

•    Facilitate and/or participate in organizational activities including team meetings, town halls, and engagement initiatives.

5.    Internal Controls and Process Improvement

•    Support to develop an environment of continuous process and controls improvements.

•    Support the design and upkeep of internal financial control system.

•    Propose enhancements to financial systems, reporting mechanisms, and operational workflows to improve transparency and efficiency. 

•    Help ensure accounting policies and procedures are accurately documented and consistently maintained.

What You Bring to Our Mission


•    4-year degree in accounting, with or working towards CPA designation.

•    5+ years of experience in financial accounting.

•    Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and accounting standards specific to NPOs.

•    Working knowledge of Financial Edge will be considered a strong asset.

•    Excellent working knowledge of Excel.

•    Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

•    Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.

•    Comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization.

•    Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

•    Solid team player.

•    Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.

•    Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.

•    High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.

•    Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.

•    Able to maintain confidential information.

•    Strong mathematical skills.
