Welding Engineer

Acuren is currently seeking a Welding Engineer to join our Engineering Department. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will be support our Pacific Region.
This is a full-time, office-based role located in Richmond, BC.
The salary range for this position is CA$110K to CA$135K/yr. commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ResponsibilitiesIn this role, the incumbent will perform a wide range of engineering and project tasks but will specialize in advising on welding processes and principles to ensure the strength, durability, and safety of welded structures. The incumbent will have the opportunity to support other parts of the business such as failure investigation, corrosion assessment and prevention, material selection, quality assurance, remaining life estimate, and mechanical behavior assessment as their experience and interests will support. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for growing services, nurturing customer base, and delivery of high-quality services.
Engineering experience and expertise:
- Provide welding support to a wide variety of projects by applying knowledge of welding processes and industry welding codes to develop specific welding procedures which are compliant with the requirements of the applicable code
- Develop welding procedure specifications (WPS) as required
- Provide technical support to both internal and external groups for repair designs and procedures for structures, tanks, pressure equipment and other components
- Performing engineering review of equipment integrity inspections and provide recommendations on suitability for service
- Mentoring less experienced staff and providing technical support to the engineering team
- Any additional area of expertise across failure analysis, corrosion, polymers, non-destructive testing, fitness for service assessment would be an asset.
Project management and client engagement:
- Diligent management through all phases of a project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
- Proactively engaging with clients to build rapport, enhance relationships, and navigate difficult conversations.
- Continually striving for process improvements including creating comprehensive reports and reports aligned to client needs, and identifying solutions to issues and developing recommendations for implementation
- A university degree in Engineering (Materials, Metallurgy, Welding, or equivalent)
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (or immediately eligible) with the Engineers & Geoscientists of BC (PEng)
- A minimum of 10 years of directly related work experience.
- Demonstrated experience of successful project management and implementation of project management tools for tracking and communicating budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines, maintaining a high-quality deliverables and clear and timely communication.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards including CWB, ASME, CSA, API and others
- Registration as a CWB Welding Engineer would be an asset
- Deep understanding of the operations and lifecycle extension of heavy equipment common to oil & gas, pulp & paper, mining industries would be an asset.
- Familiarity with WorkSafe BC, Technical Safety BC, and EGBC regulations.
- Familiarity with ISO Quality, Heath, Safety, and Environmental programs, policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs and driver license, Class 5 (clean record) required.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards Ability to resolve issues and problems that are not clearly defined.
- Ability to manage large amounts of data effectively.
- Ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively respond to different levels of understanding, and produce professional reports.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs and driver license, Class 5 (clean record) required.
