We are hiring experienced Municipal Sidewalk Snow Removal Operators for the upcoming winter season. This role focuses on clearing city-owned sidewalks, pedestrian routes, crossings, and public right-of-ways to ensure safe access for residents, businesses, schools, and transit users during snow and ice events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate municipal sidewalk snow machines, Ventrac units, compact loaders, and specialized sidewalk equipment.
  • Clear snow and ice from city sidewalks, curb ramps, crosswalks, and public pathways.
  • Apply de-icing materials in accordance with municipal standards and environmental guidelines.
  • Follow assigned city routes, service maps, and priority timelines.
  • Pile and manage snow in approved areas without obstructing sidewalks, intersections, or accessibility features.
  • Respond promptly to snow and ice events, including overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety issues.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors regarding route completion, hazards, and site conditions.
  • Work as part of a coordinated municipal snow response team.

Preferred Equipment Experience:

  • Municipal sidewalk snow machines
  • Ventrac sidewalk equipment
  • Bobcat small articulated loaders
  • Compact tractors with snow attachments

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in municipal or city sidewalk snow removal preferred.
  • Must be available 24/7 on-call during snow and ice events, including holidays (Christmas, New Year's).
  • Valid driver's license required (CDL considered an asset).
  • Reliable transportation to and from the municipal yard.
  • Strong understanding of city snow-clearing standards, pedestrian safety, and accessibility requirements (AODA/ADA).
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in extreme winter conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in freezing temperatures, wind, and snow.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and operate equipment for extended periods.
