The Faculty of
Science and the FEPAC-accredited Forensic Science Program at Ontario Tech
University invite applications for a full-time, tenure-stream position in
Forensic Biology. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related
discipline within the Natural Sciences at the time of appointment; individuals
with expertise in Bioinformatics will also be considered. This is a
research-focused position. The successful candidate will be expected to
establish and maintain a dynamic, externally funded, and innovative research
program within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. Evidence of
research excellence should include a record of peer-reviewed publications in
high-quality, field-relevant journals, a summary of current research, a five-year
research plan (1–2 pages), and strong letters of reference. Additional
indicators of disciplinary contribution, such as professional forensic
practice, advisory or committee roles, casework, expert testimony, or other
activities enhancing the visibility and impact of the field, are considered
assets.

Evidence of
excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the
statement of teaching philosophy submitted as part of the application, as well
as strong letters of reference. From an instructional perspective, the
successful candidate will be expected to teach courses covering topics such as forensic
biology and population genetics, and would ideally contribute to the curriculum
by teaching a course in their area of expertise. As a tenure-track faculty
member there is an expectation of supervising the training of highly-qualified
personnel at the undergraduate and graduate-level.

Applicants should possess a
Ph.D., a strong academic background; and an established record of excellence in
innovative and scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications.
Candidates must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching
contributions.  In addition, candidates should possess excellent English
language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way
communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial
relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
