Shop Mechanic

Prairie North Const. is actively recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Shop Technician to join our Team

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Technician (Red Seal or Experienced Apprentice) is responsible for providing quality workmanship in the repair of our equipment and providing consistent service and applying technical knowledge to troubleshooting challenges on our equipment.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Repair and perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical maintenance and trouble-shooting on various equipment including but not limited to; Hydraulic Excavators, Dozers, Motor Scrapers, Articulated Rock Trucks, On Highway Trucks, Packers, Motor Graders, and Wheel Loaders.
  • Program, update, and calibrate on board control systems using Manufacturer software such as Cat SIS, Cat ET, and Cummins Insite.
  • Maintain shop tools when required (such as hydraulic press, industrial parts or pressure washer, air compressors, scissor lifts, forklifts, etc.)
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications

Skills and Qualifications

  • Journeyman HET Red Seal Certification in on and off road
  • Experienced apprentice
  • 3 years on the job experience to complement Apprenticeship training program
  • Fundamental written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computers including Microsoft office
  • Be able to work effectively with others
  • Excellent demonstrated mechanical aptitude, analysis and problem solving skills
  • Have a concern for safety and awareness of safe working procedures
  • Able to take a service truck to a job site to troubleshoot and assist in making decisions on whether or not it can be fixed efficiently in the field or brought to the shop
  • Ability to work overtime if required
  • Ability to work safely
  • Ability to troubleshoot

  • heavy equipment mechanic: 3 years (Preferred)
  • motor scraper repair: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Experienced Apprentice

Licence:

  • First Aid (Preferred)
  • Class 5 Drivers (Required)
  • Red Seal Certified
