The St. Michael's Hospital, Department of Family and Community Medicine operates a progressive community based Academic Family Health Team, affiliated with the University of Toronto. With collectively over 75 physicians and nurse practitioners and large team of nursing and health disciplines clinicians, our team is committed to providing comprehensive interdisciplinary patient care. The primary location of this position is Sumac Creek Health Centre with the possibility of being scheduled across all 5 of the Family Health Team sites as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary role of a the Psychologist is to provide individual and group counseling for patients of the Family Health Team in collaboration with other mental health services including a Psychology Training Clinic in collaboration with Toronto Metropolitan University, Social Workers, Addictions and Outreach Clinicians. The psychologist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based assessment, treatment, and consultation to patients with a focus on providing access to populations who may have experienced barriers to care. The Psychologist supports staff and learners through consultation, teaching, and supervision as well as participates in other team initiatives such as quality improvement, research or other program development and evaluation.

  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
  • Is committed to providing anti-oppressive and accessible care for all patients
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the

    College of Psychologists of Ontario
    - Must hold a Doctoral Degree in Psychology, 3 years' experience preferred
    - Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period)
    - Experience

    in a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive and behavioural therapies, dialectical behaviour therapy, acceptance-based treatments, or motivational interviewing
    - Experience with ADHD and cognitive psychology assessment for adult populations
    - Expertise working with a wide range of populations across the lifespan with challenges such anxiety-related disorders, trauma, mood disorders, substance use disorders, ADHD and personality disorders
    - Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
    - Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
    - Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
    - Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees)
