is seeking a motivated and technically skilled
Software Developer Co-op/Intern
for Winter 2026
to support the ongoing development of our livestock monitoring platform. Working under the guidance of the Principal Software Engineer, you'll contribute to mobile app development, implement and expand the project's testing framework, and assist in refining AI-driven features used for livestock health insights. This role provides hands-on experience with real-world IoT, mobile, and AI systems while contributing directly to a production-grade agricultural technology platform.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and refinement of Ranchflow's cross-platform mobile application (React Native/Expo).
  • Implement and maintain an automated testing suite to improve reliability and reduce production issues.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to identify bugs, write reproducible test cases, and validate new features prior to deployment.
  • Contribute to app-wide QA and performance testing, ensuring smooth user experience across devices.
  • Support the integration of APIs, cloud services, and data pipelines.
  • If applicable, assist in refining AI model integration for livestock monitoring and anomaly detection (replacing current general wrappers with optimized models).
  • Participate in code reviews, follow best practices for Git workflow, and document testing and development procedures.
  • Engage in weekly progress meetings with senior developers and provide input on software improvement opportunities.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related undergraduate program.
  • Must hold Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee status (international students are not eligible).
  • Some experience in mobile application development (React Native/Expo preferred).
  • Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend or mobile frameworks (React, , Angular or similar).
  • Experience with modern styling libraries (Tailwind CSS, Material UI, or similar).
  • Understanding of software testing fundamentals and willingness to take ownership of app-wide testing coverage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in debugging and QA.
  • Eagerness to learn cloud technologies (AWS preferred) and modern development practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote development environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, IoT Core, DynamoDB, Amplify, Cognito).
  • Experience or coursework related to IoT systems (LoRaWAN, MQTT, or sensor networks).
  • Understanding of AI/ML workflows, particularly model training or inference in production environments.
  • Experience using CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) and automated testing libraries (Jest, Playwright, Cypress, etc.).
