The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. We strive to be a model of excellence in the advancement of animal welfare and to lead the movement in creating a more humane world. EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment and rehoming. Beyond animal sheltering, we engage with the community through various programs and services to support happy, lifelong bonds between people and pets.

The Role 

The Team Lead, Camps and Clubs plays a key role in the Humane Education team, overseeing the planning, development, and delivery of EHS' camp and club programs for youth. These programs foster compassion, empathy, and respect for animals through engaging, educational, and hands-on experiences. 

This role is responsible for leading staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality program delivery, maintaining a safe environment for participants, and managing administrative and operational aspects of camps and clubs.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Program Development & Delivery

  • Plan, implement, and deliver EHS camps and clubs, including spring, summer, fall and winter camps, as well as Humane Heroes Youth Club.
  • Lead educational presentations and activities, collaborating with internal departments and external partners.
  • Support resource planning and budgeting related to camps and clubs.
  • Supervise summer camp counsellors and volunteers, ensuring proper coverage and effective team engagement.
  • Serve as liaison for volunteers and Animal Ambassadors.

Program Administration

  • Manage registration, communications and customer service for parents/guardians.
  • Maintain accurate participant information, forms and waivers.
  • Coordinate camp schedules, room bookings and staffing.
  • Complete incident reports and follow-up documentation to support continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures for all camp and club activities.
  • Identify and report potential risks or hazards, ensuring safe and inclusive environments.
  • Support the Supervisor, Humane Education in reviewing safety protocols and training staff.
Education & Experience
  • Diploma or degree in a related field such as Education, Recreation, Business Administration, Animal Welfare or Humane Education.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in youth program delivery, including teaching, curriculum design and lesson planning.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification are required, while Pet First Aid certification is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in digital tools and computer applications; adaptable to technology-driven environments
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel as required
  • Experience creating or delivering online educational content is an asset
 Skills & Abilities

As an ideal candidate, you will bring excellent communication, presentation and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively. You possess strong organizational, planning and project management abilities, enabling you to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality programs. Your leadership experience includes supervising staff or volunteers, fostering teamwork and maintaining a positive, inclusive environment. You are confident and comfortable handling companion animals such as cats, dogs and small animals, ensuring their welfare and safety at all times. 

Compensation & Hours
  • Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.
  • Hours: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
