Pauquachin First Nation is seeking to hire an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). Operating under the direct supervision of the Head Start Manager, the ECE assists with the planning and implementation of activities for Pauquachin First Nation (PFN) children, families and community to enhance child development as well as to collaborate as a part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that PFN children have access to the services they need. The ECE plays an important role to promote the early childhood stages of growth and development of the Head Start Daycare children. All Head Start programming supports and includes the delivery of culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition, social support, and parental and family involvement. The ECE will be the support for the Toddler room.

The wage range for this position is $29.00 – 33.00 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Adheres to the six components of the Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve program: culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition, social support, and parent and family involvement;

· Assists with the planning and implementation of activities for each family/child including referrals to specialized services;

· Assists in the development and delivery of curriculum including culturally based curriculum;

· Collaborates in planning, preparation and carrying out instructional activities for 3 – 5 programs;

· Conducts developmental assessments of each child 3 - 5 years of age using appropriate tools and personal skills and knowledge;

· Assists the Manager to conduct monthly evaluations various program activities, and to develop and maintain yearly, monthly, and daily instructional plans;

· Resolves conflict with program participants or parents;

· Provides transportation of children as required;

· Demonstrates appropriate and effective teaching strategies which will support the learning of children involved in the program;

· Delivers activities such as art/crafts, reading with the children, playing (indoor and outdoor);

· Performs cleaning and sanitizing duties including toys, furniture, equipment, supplies, bathrooms and coat room as per the daily cleaning schedule;

· Maintains a clean, safe and nurturing learning environment in the day care, on fieldtrips or other day care sponsored activities;

· Performs general housekeeping duties such as laundry, snack preparation, cleaning after mealtime, and supply organization;

· Changes diapers and helps older children in the bathroom;

· Connects and builds relationships with children in a positive way to encourage engagement and participation and have fun.

Education and Experience

· Diploma or certificate in Early Childhood Education; and

· Valid Licence to Practice with the Early Childhood Educator registry; and

· 2 years' experience working in a daycare or other ECE environment preferred;

· Experience planning and implementing curriculum and achieving outcomes an asset;

· Valid FoodSafe Level 1 certificate or willingness to obtain;

· Possession of a valid WHMIS certificate or willingness to obtain;

· Clean criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector required;

· Valid Child Safe first aid and CPR certificate as per the Child Care Licensing requirements;

· Class 5 driver's licence, reliable vehicle and a clean driver's abstract an asset;
