ABOUT TSË LHTS'ËNC'IL NEC'IGEKH BE YIKH (SPLIT ROCK HEALING HOUSE)

Located on Takiga Lake near Witset, BC, Split Rock Healing House is a new four-month, six-bed live-in program for Indigenous youth in northern BC. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, the program supports youth in connection with their families and communities, addressing healing across the physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional dimensions.

Youth are supported by trauma-informed counsellors, social workers, Elders, knowledge keepers, and a dedicated wellness team. Families are welcomed into the healing process, and care continues long after youth complete the program through mentorship, alumni engagement, and cultural connections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Youth Wellness Workers are the heart of Split Rock Healing House. They ensure the day-to-day safety and smooth operation of the house, while helping youth feel at home, supported, and empowered.

Our team includes both part-time and full-time roles, including two live-in positions that provide additional support and foster a sense of belonging for youth during program sessions.

You will:

  • Participate in daily program activities, from land-based teachings to arts, recreation, and classroom learning.
  • Support youth with life skills, cultural engagement, and clinical activities.
  • Model positive, non-judgmental relationships that affirm cultural identity and foster trust.
  • Create an environment of home, healing, and hope.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Wellness Support Worker shall be responsible for:

Youth Engagement & Support

  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with youth as supportive advocates.
  • Model inclusive, trauma-informed, non-judgmental interactions.
  • Support participation in cultural teachings, ceremonies, and land-based activities.
  • Assist with clinical activities (counselling exercises, treatment planning).
  • Support youth in developing life skills (household tasks, education, career exploration).

Program & Activity Support

  • Facilitate and join in activities such as hikes, fishing, berry picking, arts and crafts, and off-site trips.
  • Drive youth to appointments or outings in Witset/Smithers, as needed.
  • Collaborate with counsellors and other team members to deliver programming.

Safety & Operations

  • Monitor youth activities, ensuring safety and accountability.
  • Support youth with signing in/out personal effects (medication, valuables, technology).
  • Provide evening security after daily activities.
  • Notify leadership or emergency contacts in case of medical or crisis situations.

Administration & Team Support

  • Document youth interactions and events in the electronic medical record.
  • Handle phone calls in line with confidentiality and policy.
  • Contribute to housekeeping and clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Witset Health & Wellness partners to support community wellbeing.

This role requires flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, or adjusted hours within the standard 35-hour workweek.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • 2+ years' experience working with youth and families, particularly First Nations youth.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and the ability to integrate cultural activities into support work.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices, mental health, and substance use.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Administrative and technology skills (Google Docs, Google Sheets, basic troubleshooting).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or equivalent).

Assets:

  • Post-secondary education in Healthcare, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in youth care, mental healthcare, or social services.
  • Ability to facilitate land-based, cultural, or community activities.
