Tsë Lhts'ënc'il Nec'igekh Be Yikh (Split Rock Healing House) is seeking a compassionate and motivated Lead Wellness Support Worker. This is a unique opportunity to walk alongside Indigenous youth in their healing journeys while guiding and mentoring our Wellness Support Worker team.

ABOUT TSË LHTS'ËNC'IL NEC'IGEKH BE YIKH (SPLIT ROCK HEALING HOUSE)

Located on Takiga Lake near Witset, BC, Split Rock Healing House is a new four-month, six-bed live-in program for Indigenous youth in northern BC. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, the program supports youth in connection with their families and communities, addressing healing across the physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional dimensions.

Youth are supported by trauma-informed counsellors, social workers, Elders, knowledge keepers, and a dedicated wellness team. Families are welcomed into the healing process, and care continues long after youth complete the program through mentorship, alumni engagement, and cultural connections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Lead Wellness Support Worker plays a central role in ensuring that Split Rock's youth receive caring, culturally grounded, and trauma-informed support each day. This role provides direct engagement with youth while also offering leadership and mentorship to the Wellness Support Worker team.

You will:

  • Supervise and mentor a small team of Wellness Support Workers.
  • Coordinate scheduling, daily programming, and resources.
  • Engage with youth in classroom, cultural, land-based, and recreational activities.Build strong, respectful relationships with youth and families.
  • Model inclusive, non-judgmental interactions that affirm cultural identity.Collaborate with counsellors, transition staff, and community partners to strengthen overall youth wellness.

This is both a leadership and hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives in a team setting, enjoys working directly with youth, and has the organizational and interpersonal skills to guide others.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Wellness Support Worker shall be responsible for:

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide daily mentorship and guidance to Wellness Support Workers.
  • Manage staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Provide training and orientation for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure resources and supplies are available for all planned activities.

Youth Engagement & Support

  • Participate in activities with youth, including classroom learning, land-based activities, arts and crafts, and off-site experiences.
  • Support youth through a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach.
  • Assist youth in clinical activities such as counselling exercises.
  • Help youth participate in cultural events, teachings, and ceremonies.
  • Build relationships based on respect, trust, and advocacy.

Program Development & Collaboration

  • Contribute to program planning by integrating local knowledge, teachers, and activities.
  • Work closely with counsellors and the Transition Support Coordinator on case consultations and program support.
  • Collaborate with Witset Health & Wellness partners to strengthen overall community wellness.

Administration & Documentation

  • Document youth interactions and events in the electronic medical record.
  • Support leadership and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Flexibly adjust hours (including occasional evenings or weekends) to meet program needs.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with youth and families, particularly First Nations youth.
  • At least 1 year of leadership or mentorship experience.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and experience integrating cultural activities into work.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices, mental health, and substance use challenges.
  • Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Administrative and technology skills (Google Docs, Google Sheets, basic troubleshooting).
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or equivalent).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Assets:

  • Post-secondary education in Healthcare, Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in mental healthcare, youth care, or social services.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skil
