Role Overview
As a Contractor working closely with the Construction Manager, you will play a key role in delivering renovation projects efficiently, safely, and to Grassroots' quality standards. You will execute construction tasks on site and follow instructions outlined by the Construction Manager, and ensure your work meets the expectations. You may assist in coordinating materials, communicating site updates, and maintaining a professional presence with clients and the Grassroots team.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Execution
- Perform general construction tasks for renovation and new-build projects.
- Take daily direction from the Construction Manager.
- Work collaboratively with labourers and sub-trades to ensure work progresses smoothly and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site and follow all safety protocols.
- Assist in tracking material needs and communicating shortages or issues to the Construction Manager, Project Coordinator, and Project Designer.
- Adapt to changes, unexpected issues, and site conditions while ensuring work quality and efficiency.
- Ensure all work complies with the City of Ottawa building codes and Grassroots quality standards.
- Communicate any unexpected issues to construction or site manager immediately.
Collaboration & Communication
- Provide regular progress updates to the Construction Manager.
- Support Designers during site visits to ensure your work is in line with the Designer's vision.
- Participate in occasional client interactions in a professional and courteous manner.
- Coordinate effectively with material suppliers and sub-contractors when required.
Quality & Efficiency
- Deliver high-quality craftsmanship that aligns with Grassroots' standards.
- Complete tasks on schedule to support overall project timelines and budgets.
- Identify potential construction risks or delays and communicate them proactively.
What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on experience in residential construction.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow direction effectively.
- Experience working with sub-trades and suppliers.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach in client-facing situations.
- Willing to learn and follow directions
- Able to lift minimum 50 lbs.
Deliverables
- High-quality workmanship that meets Grassroots' standards.
- Positive collaboration with the Construction Manager, Designers, and Project Coordinator.
- Tasks and assigned milestones completed on time.
- Compliance with city bylaws, building codes, and project requirements.
- Contribution to smooth project execution and overall client satisfaction.
- Professional conduct that builds long-term trust with clients, sub-trades, and suppliers.
