Applications are invited for a College Nurse, in the Student Services Division located at the Welland campus.  The starting hourly rate is $46.08/hour ($46.08/hr to $53.43/hour-Payband K) for a 35-hour workweek.  Usual hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily however some flexible scheduling of hours and campus location is necessary to accommodate students and the College community. This is an Appendix D, temporary position as per Article of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to commence in November 2025 and will conclude in May It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties. 

Reporting to the Director, Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services, Welland Campus, the College Nurse is responsible for providing on-campus health care to the College community in the following ways: health assessments including mental health assessments, preventative health care, health education, health counselling, first aid and emergency assistance in accordance with legislative requirements and College policy.  The Nurse assists the College in ensuring legislative and contractual health requirements are met by students prior to commencing academic placements, maintains a confidential health record system and participates on internal and external committees representing Niagara College's Health Services.  As the health practitioner on-site, an extremely high degree of independent judgement, problem solving and ethical decision-making is required in this position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develops treatment plans including evaluation of care, with physician follow-up and referral to outside medical care as necessary

  • Administers injections, drugs or treatments based on policies and procedures and medical directives

  • Makes recommendations to Directors, HWAS regarding health care needs and preventions based on identified trends

  • Monitors new development and changes in health care as they apply to individuals, the public or professional practice

  • Provides health counselling for prevention of illness and enhancement of health, including mental health

  • Monitors and provides compliance of students and staff with legislated immunization requirements for field placements

  • Acts as on-campus professional health consultant to the college

  • Participates in student success by attending college events, developing and implementing service evaluation and student satisfaction measures and maintaining a positive multi-disciplinary team (R.N.'s, Counsellors and Physicians) environment

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse and a member in good standing with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 4 year Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum five (5) years of Registered Nurse experience in a progressive community of nursing
  • Experience working independently, preferably in an adult educational environment
  • Candidates will possess Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Health Care Provider (HCP) Standard First Aid Certification
  • Advanced training or certification in mental health or public health nursing as well as computer literacy are assets
  • Must participate in quality assurance program annually including performing a detailed self-assessment and structured learning plan
  • A demonstrated ability to provide emergency as well as routine medical interventions, work collaboratively with the college community and take a leadership role in matters of college health and safety and wellness are additional requirements for this position
