JOB SUMMARY:
The Shop Teacher plays a key role in supporting the educational and technical development of students by establishing clear performance expectations and fostering a strong desire to learn. This position provides students with meaningful resources, information, and hands-on opportunities that promote learning, skill development, and career readiness. The Shop Teacher is expected to demonstrate professionalism, respect, and integrity, offering students the same trust and consideration expected in return. Responsibilities include promoting student learning, engaging in ongoing professional development, and contributing to school activities and governance. The Shop Teacher will deliver instruction to students in Grades 9–12, with an emphasis on developing technical competencies across various trades areas. The successful candidate will create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, effectively manage shop tools and equipment, and ensure alignment with the Alberta curriculum and professional teaching standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver instruction with an understanding of the community's political, cultural, and social context.
- Adhere to the goals and plans established by the Head Chief and Minor Chiefs, the Education Board of Trustees, and the Director of Education.
- Teach and enforce all safety procedures and guidelines for the use of shop tools, machinery, and equipment to ensure a safe learning environment at all times.
- Maintain, organize, and perform minor repairs on shop equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and well-managed workspace.
- Engage regularly with students and parents to support student success.
- Attend all required staff meetings, professional development sessions, and workshops.
- Follow established absence-reporting procedures.
- Teach approved courses and programs as authorized.
- Ensure students have online access to classes, materials, and resources.
- Assess and report student progress regularly to students, parents, and the Principal.
- Provide ongoing support and tutoring to students as needed.
- Participate in activities that support school and student success.
- Submit monthly progress reports and maintain all required documentation.
- Maintain backups of student files, marks, and attendance records.
- Perform other duties related to school and student success as assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Desired Education, Knowledge and Experience:
o Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed.) or a related field.
o Specialized training or experience in vocational and technical subjects.
o Journeyperson certification in a designated trade is an asset.
o Training or coursework related to Indigenous Education and Cultural Competency is an asset.
o Knowledge of the latest education pedagogue and the 20th century learning and teaching methodology and tools.

o Ability to build trust and rapport with students, and maintain effective working relationships.
o Ability to work collaboratively as an active team member.

o Ability to effectively analyze information, manage conflict, and respond to risk situations.
o Possesses strong data entry and documentation skills
- General Employment Requirements:
o Valid Driver's License, and reliable transportation.
o Valid Interim Professional Certificate (IPC) or a Permanent Professional Certificate (PPC).
o Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.
