Duties:

The primary purpose of the Volunteer Tutor Assistant position is to support the academic success of students through a volunteer-based tutoring program. This role involves both direct student support and program administration. Key responsibilities include matching students with volunteer tutors who can provide support in core subjects such as English, math, and sciences.

The Volunteer Tutor Assistant will offer help through scheduled office hours, online platforms, phone, and email. The Assistant is also responsible for recruiting and screening volunteer tutors to ensure a suitable fit for the program, matching them with students based on specific tutoring needs and maintaining ongoing communication and support.

Additionally, the role includes organizing tutoring places/spaces in consultation with tutors; planning and organizing appreciation events to recognize the contributions of volunteer tutors, as well as creating, maintaining, and managing student and tutor documentation, program resources, reports, and records effectively. Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills are essential to foster a positive and efficient environment for both tutors and students, ensuring the overall success of the tutoring program.

Required Qualifications:

One-year certificate (office administration). Minimum three years of proven experience in office administration, including front-facing service/reception.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid BC Driver's License.
  • Working knowledge of VIU systems and support services.
  • Experience in Adult Basic Education, English Language Learning and/or experience/education working with students with neurodiversites.
