The Opportunity

KFI is seeking an Operations Supervisor to join our refinery, located near Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, Canada, on a 7 on 7 off days schedule. Reporting to the General Manager, the Supervisor will ensure the safe, reliable operation of the process units and equipment to meet throughput and product quality requirements. The successful candidate will leverage their experience, technical knowledge, and exemplary communication skills to build and support an effective team of operators.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations:

  • Oversee safe and reliable operation of all process units, including tank farms and trucking loadout.
  • Lead and support operations staff through recruitment, performance management, mentoring, coaching, and corrective action.
  • Co-supervise with other Operations Supervisor, managing 4 operation teams to ensure safe and efficient daily operations.
  • Ensure compliance with KFI safe work practices and procedures.
  • Ensure operators complete and are current with all required training courses.
  • Ensure proper handover information is communicated during shift changes.
  • Regularly inspect operational areas to promote and maintain a safe and clean production environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving activities in the production department.
  • Perform weekly inventory counts for personal protective equipment, product contact materials, and process-related glassware; submit purchasing requests as needed.
  • Manage shift time and attendance systems, ensuring accurate hours and timely payroll processing.
  • Lead startup and shutdown of process units as required.
  • Monitor and adjust process operations to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Monitor steam production from hydrogen and boiler plants to ensure adequate steam supply.
  • Maintain operating conditions and product specifications as per KFI standards.
  • Troubleshoot daily process upsets with support from Facility Operators.
  • Monitor control center operations and manage pipeline flow into and out of the Facility.

Maintenance:

  • Ensure equipment operates within design parameters and specifications.
  • Report and prepare work orders for equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain sufficient operating supplies within the Facility.
  • Ensure housekeeping instructions are scheduled and completed.
  • Record shutdown work requests and prepare valve and blank lists.
  • Approve any automation changes to VT Scada.

Safety and Environment:

  • Respond to major incidents or emergencies as the initial 1st Responder.
  • Maintain fire suppression equipment in the Process and Tank Farm areas.
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
  • Approve variances from procedures and ensure procedures are redlined as required.
  • Update redlined procedures and submit to approval process.
  • Lock out and tag equipment as per KFI procedures before maintenance activities.
  • Co- Custodian of Lock Out Tag Out standard.
  • Continuously monitor procedures and standards to identify and address any gaps.
  • Prevent environmental releases and report spills immediately.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings.

Documentation and Records Keeping:

  • Manage and document the performance of operations personnel.
  • Monitor Operations Daily Log and ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the shift schedule including granting time off, finding coverage and minimizing overtime.

Operator Training

  • Provide guidance and support to newly hired operators, monitoring their progress in training modules.
  • Identify and address any challenges or difficulties that operators may encounter while learning the process and completing their training modules.
  • Validate operators once they feel confident in training modules, provide training where required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a crude oil refinery or related facility, including hydrotreating.
  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certification.
  • Valid class 5 Saskatchewan or Alberta driver's license.
  • Extensive knowledge of pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, fractionation equipment, furnaces, heat exchangers, condensers, and related equipment.
  • Able to obtain Certifications in H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS/TDG.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada

Job Type: Full-time
