OVERALL:

The Care Home Worker is a Full-time program position that supports caregivers in providing daily care and supervision of children and youth ages 0-17 years old within caregiver and WCWA Waakaa'igan homes.

DUTIES:

    • Provides relevant, and competent service to Wabaseemoong WCWA caregivers.
    • Ensures care of children from caregivers are delivered with excellence and conform to Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority's Customary Care Code, Manuals and Service Delivery Model, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
    • Provides recruiting, orientation and training to adults interested in opening home to WCWA children/youth who require placements.
    • Complete pre-screening and screening processes (home mapping, reference checks and criminal/vulnerable checks) for potential caregivers
    • Prepare documentation and schedule meeting to present to the authority in opening caregiver homes for approval.
    • Receive and review placement requests as directed
    • Manage and maintain up-to-date listing of placements and openings in approved homes.
    • Discussing with caregivers and primary worker any concerns as required.
    • Completing visits as per scheduled
    • Provide and schedule training
    • Create positive and healthy relationships 
    • Document and record accurate and confidential records.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reports
    • Participate actively with internal team units and supporting external organizations as needed.
    • Provides reports to the Manager and/or Director on services rendered, accomplishments, problems, and plans to correct deficiencies and meet goals.
    • Maintain confidentiality to ensure that the privacy of individuals is protected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Post-Secondary Diploma with a minimum of one-year experience in administrative or social services. However, others with a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.
  2. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the administrative structure and operations of Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority (WCWA), including the Customary Care Code, Manuals and Service Delivery Model, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  3. Knowledge of the philosophy of service development/delivery, Wabaseemoong Independent Nations and family structure, local customs, and traditions.
  4. Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports regarding service delivery and procedures.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with clients, colleagues, other relevant organizations, and management.
  6. Commitment to helping Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices.
  7. Commitment to providing services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement.
  8. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  9. Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary Child Welfare team.
  10. Working knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  12. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  13. Ability to flex daily work hours as needed.
  14. Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver's License and be willing to travel.
  15. Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver's Abstract; and
  16. Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
