Operating Unit: Empower Environmental Solutions - Calgary

Shift Position: Monday to Friday, 7.00 AM to 3.30 PM and additional time as required. Permanent position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Summary: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment, machinery, and systems at our Calgary production facility. This includes working with pumps, conveyors, belts, gearboxes, motors, and other mechanical components to ensure smooth operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)

* Support and participate actively in all site-level HSE initiatives.

* Understand and follow Company safety policies, site procedures, and relevant Alberta OHS legislation and execute safe work procedures.

* Develop situational awareness, practice risk mitigation, complete FLHAs, JHAs, etc., report all incidents promptly, and ensure thorough and accurate documentation of compliance activities.

* Install and assemble machinery and equipment, including conveyors, pumps, and mechanical systems, according to blueprints or engineering drawings.

* Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify root causes, and take corrective actions to restore equipment to full operation.

* Conduct regular inspections of machinery and systems to ensure proper functioning, identify wear, and schedule repairs or replacements when necessary.

* Ensure proper alignment of machines and systems and calibrate equipment for accuracy and performance.

* Perform basic welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment as needed.

* Manage maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and parts used and update work orders within the CMMS system. Maintain a clean work area and report any equipment malfunctions or failures promptly.

* Work closely with other personnel, engineers, and operators to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

* Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests including troubleshooting issues and perform necessary repairs to restore equipment operations as quickly as possible.

* Be able to respond to occasional evening or weekend work depending on maintenance schedules.

* Completion of a millwright program or technical training in a related field.

* 5+ years' experience as an industrial mechanic or maintenance technician in a production setting.

* Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, belts, motors, and HVAC units.

* Certification in industrial maintenance and/or welding is preferred.

* Knowledge of PLCs, CMMS systems, and industrial wiring are assets.

* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

* Proficiency in using hand and power tools, welding equipment, and measuring devices.

* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Computer Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job related information including machine or component drawings and schematics and ability to write tool requests and justification reports.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills: The ability to perform appropriate math functions and accurately assemble data in a logical manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to carry/handle or feel, talk, and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for appropriate inspections. The employee must be able to ascend and descend stairs multiple times in a shift. Seasonal exposure to weather elements may include, but not limited to, extreme temperature, wetness, and humidity.
