Our client, a trusted provider of secure energy and infrastructure construction solutions, is seeking an experienced
Project Accountant
to join their Edmonton, Alberta team.

The Project Accountant will contribute to the success of projects by coordinating financial processes, including billing and payments, while strengthening collaboration between project and finance teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and finalize project billings with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Controls to address contract-related issues.
  • Monitor overdue billings and escalate to Project Teams when necessary.
  • Review contracts to ensure a clear understanding of project billing requirements.
  • Set up new projects in the accounting and project management system.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to verify costs are entered into Viewpoint and properly approved.
  • Support the finance team with reporting, audits, and month-end close activities.
  • Generate reports and perform financial analyses; maintain subcontract files.
  • Prepare ad hoc project-related financial reports as requested.
  • Oversee pay-when-paid terms by coordinating with Accounts Payable to process subcontractor payments once client payments are received.
  • Perform job cost adjustments as required to correct coding errors.

Key Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, ideally in a project-based environment.
  • Experience with Viewpoint and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Previous experience in project accounting within the construction industry is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of construction operations, best practices, documentation, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in financial records and project documentation.
