Sr. Producer, Arts and Life Video
The CBC Unscripted Content department is seeking a Senior Producer to oversee video production for CBC Arts, Life and the Creator Network.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, Creator & Video Strategy, this role requires significant experience in video production and distribution; strong team leadership and editorial judgement; familiarity with the arts and lifestyle landscape; and a keen understanding of how to grow digital video audiences.

The Senior Producer will plan, direct and co-ordinate the work of others, effectively communicate strategic objectives and oversee the development of the team and its performance. Specifically, the Senior Producer will collaborate closely with editorial leads at CBC Arts and CBC Life on video strategy, and will oversee production of in-house, freelance and creator-led content.

You are video-obsessed, and are passionate about collaborating with new creators on both short-form social videos and longer-form YouTube videos. Your objective is to grow audiences by engaging video creators who reflect contemporary Canada and appeal to both the audiences we serve and those we are working to grow.

You are an analytical and creative thinker who is able to make data-driven decisions. You tackle challenges head-on with a solutions-oriented approach.

A thoughtful leader and natural collaborator, you can motivate and support your team by building professional relationships rooted in a foundation of trust and mutual respect.

Your work happens in partnership with internal CBC teams to produce video content for their audiences. You must be a strong communicator who is able to work with stakeholders across different teams to find consensus on the best path to content creation.

In this role, you will balance day-to-day editorial tasks with overall platform and departmental goals and objectives. There is a continuous requirement to focus on fine details of our content to ensure it is of the highest quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of both in-house and freelance video professionals to produce high quality digital video content.
  • Creator outreach: Discover and build relationships with emerging Canadian independent video creators and introduce them to content opportunities within CBC.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure content aligns with strategic editorial audience goals and abide by the established tone of the programming and departmental mandate.
  • Continue to diversity the range of voices, opinions and storytelling styles the audience hears
  • Maintain and update commissioning budget and be familiar with costs related to digital-first and social-first production models.
  • Create, maintain and distribute content and production calendars and publishing schedules.
  • Provide creative feedback and notes on pitches and projects.
  • Lead story and team meetings.
  • Understand how to interpret — and take action against — audience analytics to improve our content offering, grow our audiences and create more meaningful content for our audiences.
  • Represent CBC at relevant outreach events.

We Are Looking For a Candidate With

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum seven years relevant experience in content production and publishing (eg. editorial structures & calendars, video content production, social media content publishing structures).
  • Detailed knowledge of digital video storytelling.
  • Deep knowledge of best practices for video platforms like YouTube and how to use it effectively for digital publishing.
  • Several years experience working with editorial copy and video, providing notes and feedback.
  • Knowledge and experience of best practices, tools and processes for publishing original online video.
  • Demonstrated ability in making strong programming decisions that drive audience reach, retention, engagement and loyalty.
  • Strong understanding of digital content packaging and distribution across a variety of platforms and services

Subjective Criteria

  • High level of creativity required — must be able to provide imaginative and effective suggestions and solutions. Deep experience conceiving and creating digital content.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, along with the ability to work under deadline with multiple priorities.
  • An ability to reach and engage the largest possible audience with the highest caliber digital content — while honouring the creative vision.
  • Prior experience in YouTube and social production are an asset.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
