About the Organization
Vine Place Community Centre is expanding and growing We are excited to become the
newest hub for Becket, Newfoundland and Labrador's province-wide Integrated Youth
Services (IYS) model.
Becket brings youth ages 12–29 access to mental health, wellness, employment,
education, housing, primary care, and cultural supports all under one roof.
IYS hubs are designed to:
● Improve access to the right supports at the right time,
● Reduce service fragmentation,
● Create welcoming, youth-friendly spaces,
● Support families and communities,
● Build strong partnerships across sectors.
Vine Place will play a key role in bringing this model to Western NL, helping ensure that
Indigenous youth and families have culturally grounded, community-led, and integrated
support.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Youth Wellness Worker to support the successful implementation of
Becket's IYS model at Vine Place.
This role provides support to youth, helping them navigate a range of community,
health, and social services.
The Youth Wellness Worker also plays a key role in:
● Supporting integrated service delivery,
● Strengthening partnerships between service providers,
● Ensuring cultural safety for Indigenous youth and families, and
● Helping Becket meet provincial IYS goals related to equity, accessibility, and
community-driven design.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Engagement and Support
Provide one-on-one and group peer support to youth ages 12–29 in a nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, and youth-centered way.
● Build trusting, supportive relationships with youth by using empathy, active listening, and
youth-friendly communication, while maintaining healthy boundaries and confidentiality.
● Support youth in identifying goals and navigating systems by helping them access
mental health and wellness services, housing supports, education and employment
pathways, cultural supports, and other community resources.
● Promote skill-building and wellness by helping youth strengthen coping strategies, life
skills, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence.
● Co-design and facilitate activities and programs, including group sessions, workshops,
drop-ins, or structured engagement opportunities that reflect youth needs and interests.
● Respond to youth who are experiencing challenges or crises (with guidance from senior
staff) with calm, empathetic support, and assist in connecting them to appropriate
services, crisis resources, and follow-up care.
● Maintain documentation and communication as required, contributing to shared care
planning, service coordination, and continuous improvement within the IYS model.
Qualifications
Required:
● Understanding of peer support values: mutuality, respect, empowerment, and self-
determination.
● Experience working or volunteering with youth in a community or nonprofit setting.
● Strong understanding of the services and supports offered in the Western Region of
Newfoundland.
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
● Ability to work evenings or weekends when programs require.
● Commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and trauma-informed practices.
● Must have a valid drivers licence and access to a private vehicle.
● Updated certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred:
● Diploma or certificate in Social Services, Community Development, or a related field (or
equivalent experience).
● Lived and/or living experience relevant to youth populations served (e.g., mental health
challenges, system involvement, housing instability, 2SLGBTQIA+ identity, newcomer
experience, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to draw on lived experience in a regulated,
reflective, and trauma informed manner will be considered an asset. We value lived
experience when it has been worked through and supports healthy boundaries, insight,
and effective support for others.
● Training in mental health first aid, suicide intervention, harm reduction, or crisis
intervention. Certification will be required if not already achieved.
● Experience with program coordination, community outreach, or group facilitation.
● Knowledge of local youth services and supports.
Working Conditions
● In-person, Monday - Friday, 35 hrs/week. Some evenings and weekends required.
● Combination of office, community, and outreach-based work.
● Supportive, collaborative, and youth-driven team environment.
Compensation
● Salary: $58,000/year
● Benefits: TBD
