WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible to provide the technological skills required to perform and report laboratory procedures in the areas of Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Transfusion Medicine, and Point of Care through analysis, assay and examination of specimens. This role is responsible for being accountable for accurate results and reporting within satisfactory turnaround time, and recognizing interdependence of tests, physiology and other conditions that affect test results. This position is specifically focused on Clinical Chemistry oversight.
The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist trains and orientates staff and students, responds to technical questions consistent with the scope of practice.
In addition, this position is responsible for:
- Performs routine bench duties in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures to ensure a high quality, accurate and timely result.
- Operates, maintains and performs troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal function.
- Contributes to the ongoing improvement of clinical chemistry processes and operations
- Authoring and maintenance of standard operating procedures in accordance with regulatory standards
- Leads the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment under the direction of Laboratory Management
- Manages quality control reviews and reporting of proficiency samples
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
- Must have completed a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a medical laboratory
- Thorough knowledge of WHMIS and Accreditation Canada Diagnostics requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to Lean Methodologies and Utilization
- Advanced analytical reasoning and decision-making skills
- Advanced proficiency in relevant computer applications including Cerner, Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work independently in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Organizational skills and an ability to handle a multi-task environment
- Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence others and develop trusting internal and external relationships
- Computer skills to include the regular use of Outlook, RL6, Internet/Intranet navigation including STEGHnet, basic word processing.
- Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
- Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program
- Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and code of conduct
WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Experience with Cerner LIS
- Experience within a Hospital environment
- Experience with the Accreditation Canada Diagnostics process in a supervisory/leadership role
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the Collective Agreement.
