Mechanical Engineering Designer

The Engineering Designer at T Engineering plays a key role in delivering engineering design, project execution, and technical expertise for mining and processing operations. This role involves developing layouts and general arrangements, as well as detailed designs for material handling components such as conveyors, bins, and chutes. Responsibilities also include conducting fieldwork, performing technical analyses, preparing 3D models, and producing drawings, including IFC drawings. The ability to prepare fabrication drawings will be considered a strong asset.
This position requires both technical depth and practical field experience. A solid background in mining, milling, batch plants, water treatment, or process plants is highly valued, along with proven knowledge of backfill systems and slurry transport. The role also calls for the ability to mentor junior staff. Familiarity with mechanical equipment and proficiency in 3D modeling software are essential skills.
Responsibilities
:
- Develop overall building layouts, general arrangements, and detailed designs to support mining and processing operations.
- Design and detail material handling systems, including conveyors, bins, chutes, and related components.
- Prepare and review 3D models and engineering drawings, including IFC drawings.
- Conduct fieldwork to gather site data, validate designs, and support construction activities.
- Collaborate with piping designers, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet technical, operational, and safety standards.
- Support project execution from concept through detailed design to construction.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Provide input on mechanical equipment selection and integration into process systems.
- Mentor and guide junior designers and drafters, sharing technical expertise.
- Coordinate with fabrication and construction teams to resolve design-related issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and workflows.
- Adhere to Health & Safety responsibilities under all applicable regulations and T Engineering policies.
Qualifications
:
- Bachelor degree, technical diplomas in drafting, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant consulting or operating experience in mining, milling, or process engineering.
- Proven expertise in structural design, material handling, or codes and standards is an asset.
- Proficient in 3-D modeling software
- Proven expertise in the design and operation of backfill systems (hydraulic fill, paste fill, cemented rockfill), surface tailings disposal, underground and surface mine infrastructure, material handling, and comminution processes is an asset.
- Valid driver's license and passport.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and general computer applications.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring ability, and teamwork mindset.
- A strong commitment to Safety First values in all work.
