Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a casual Engineering Development Technician. Under the direction of the Manager, Development Engineering & Environmental Protection, the incumbent reviews, interprets, and approves construction design related to public works, new developments, and subdivisions, liaises with other internal and external departments and agencies, and provides technical support in connection with other development related issues and departmental planning.

Requirements

Applicants must have a diploma from a recognized technical institute in engineering, plus specialized courses related to civil engineering design, as well as a minimum 3 years' experience in land development design and/or approval. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required, as well as membership or eligibility for membership in Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) as a Civil Technologist.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position. Hours of work are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, there are no guaranteed hours associated with this position. The hourly wage is $42.93, increasing to $45.19 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates).
