Position Title: Mechanic

LOCATION: Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

START DATE: ASAP

SCOPE

Qillaq Innovations has a fleet of 30 pieces of Heavy Equipment as well as 35 pick-up trucks. Our operation runs hours/day. This individual will need to be versatile and able to work with others to repair and maintain our heavy equipment/vehicles/crushers and our customer's equipment . There may be some emergencies where this individual will have to work additional hours than what is scheduled.

We live in a remote area, where there is a 3-5 day period for getting parts to our community, so preventative maintenance is a key to keeping the fleet active.

We are looking for an individual who has extensive knowledge and experience with repairing Automobiles, Heavy Equipment including Excavators, Wheeled Loaders, Track Skid Steers, and some experience on Tandem Dump Trucks. A Class 3 License would be an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanic is required to:

  • operate as a team member in a cross cultural work environment.
  • follow all required safety procedures.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
  • Assist the administrative staff in identifying and ordering the correct parts.
  • Record information on the required forms in a timely and accurate manner.

The Mechanic performs a wide range of duties as follows:

  • Repair, overhaul, assemble, and service heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Perform any inspections on equipment as required.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work on the heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose with the use of computerized programs, reading codes and troubleshoot problems and determine what repairs and parts are needed.
  • Welding
  • Suggest any additional repairs required to the Operations Manager.
  • Practices good housekeeping to keep the workplace clean and orderly.
  • Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills & Knowledge:

· Familiarity with the safety concerns related to the operation and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles.

· Valid driver's license.

· Experience with Cummins Insight Program & working on Tandem Dump/Fuel Trucks

· Experience with working on Equipment out in the Worksite

. Experience with welding equipment would be a great asset as well.

· Experience on repairing John Deer, Smaller Equipment (120 – 350 Excavators, 544 & 644 Loaders)

· Problem solving, critical thinking.

· Ability to work with others.

· Enthusiastic, energetic, and an individual who takes pride in what they do.

Experience:

  • Four to Ten years experience as a Mechanic.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The successful candidate will be expected to work hour shifts while on site. This individual must be willing to travel to the other communities in our region to diagnose & repair equipment for other contracts. Operation of heavy equipment during inclement weather requires special attention to safety. Occupational Health and Safety is of major importance and all personnel are required to follow good work practices, completing tasks in a safe and orderly manner. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Pay: $32.00-$45.00 per hour
